HAWKEYE DOWNS SPEEDWAY INFORMATION

HAWKEYE DOWNS SPEEDWAY has been a fixture in Cedar Rapids since 1925 in one form or another operating under different names including Frontier Park and the Cedar Rapids Speedway. From it's opening until 1989 the facility was a dirt track. The 1989 season saw Hawkeye Downs become Iowa's first weekly paved oval with both 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile tracks, paved pits, an enclosed tech building and inspection area, MUSCO broadcast quality lighting, electronic message board, full concession facilities and many other features. In 2003, thanks to some fine sponsors, Hawkeye Downs added a new Daktronics Scoreboard, Daktronics Message Center and an AMB Transponder Timing and Scoring System.

            HAWKEYE DOWNS SPEEDWAY has become a popular venue over the years for visiting regional and national series including the ASA Late Model Series, USAC Sprints and Midgets, IMCA Summer Series, the Mid-American Stock Car Series, Mid-American Super Trucks, Auto Value Super Sprints,HOSS Winged Sprint Cars, McLeod Gold Star Series, NASCAR REMAX Series,American IndyCar Series,ASA, UMARA Midgets and many others.

            HAWKEYE DOWNS SPEEDWAY is one of a very few tracks in the United States that has all of its races broadcast live on the radio as well as simulcast on the Internet. 1600ESPN Radio (KGYM-AM) carries Friday night races as well as special events.
