BIG FIELD EXPECTED THIS WEEKEND AT HAWKEYE DOWNS
(Cedar Rapids, IA 10/7/03)—The return of warm weather comes at the perfect time for Hawkeye Downs Speedway. The “Marines.com Quarter Mile Challenge Cup II” is this Saturday and Sunday at Hawkeye Downs Speedway.
The event
is for dirt and asphalt cars on the Hawkeye Downs Speedway quarter mile track.
It is co-promoted by Special K Motorsports and Hawkeye Downs Speedway. A field
of 200 car/driver combinations is expected, with drivers pre-entered from 8
states, including 32 current or former track champions.
Open Wheel
Modifieds will be the headline division, with first place paying $5000. Other
classes include Stock Cars paying $4000 to win, Hobby Stocks paying $2000, and
Cruisers and 4Cylinders, each paying $1000 to win.
The
“Marines.com Quarter Mile Challenge Cup II” is very fan friendly. Grandstand
admission for a full day of racing this Saturday is FREE. A full day of last
chance races and feature racing is scheduled Sunday, with grandstand admission
just $14 for adults.
The event
sponsor, the Marines, will have many items on display, including a mock
battlefield camp and obstacle course. Fans can win $100 by setting the best
time on the obstacle course. The first 500 fans through the gate Sunday will
get a free US Marines T-shirt. A total of 1000 Marines collectibles will be
given away.
The start
times both days are the same. Pit gate opens at 9am. Grandstand gates open at
11am. Practice starts at 11am. Racing begins at 2pm.
In the
event of a rain out Saturday, the entire program will be run on Sunday.
