YOU ARE EXPECTED TO KNOW THE RULES. IGNORANCE IS NOT AN EXCUSE!

The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events.  These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules.  NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATIONS OF, OR COMPLIANCE WITH, THESE RULES AND/OR REGULATIONS.  They are intended as a guide for conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator, or official. 

The Race Director and Track Officials shall be empowered to permit reasonable and appropriate deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in their opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements.  NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF SPECIFICIATIONS.  Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials.  Their decision is final.

The rules set forth shall be effective for Hawkeye Downs Speedway’s 2008 racing season.  Management reserves the right to amend, alter, suspend, delete, or supplement these rules as conditions warrant and without any prior notice.  Any changes will be posted in the inspection area.  It is your responsibility to be aware of changes posted.  These rules shall govern the condition of all Hawkeye Downs Speedway events.  Auto racing is a competitive sport, and like any other sporting event that depends on fan support, there is a great deal of showmanship and public relations required.  Starting on time, running events in a professional manner, proper uniforms or attire, race cars brightly painted and the conduct of the competitors both on and off the track must be established.

Hawkeye Downs Speedway is private property.  Any person on this property without the permission of the owners or management is guilty of trespassing and subject to the penalties prescribed by law.  Through your registration you have been given the authority and the right to be on this property in conjunction with your racing activity only.  However, the management of the race track reserves the right to revoke and cancel this authority at any time it is felt that your presence or conduct is not in the best interest of auto racing, your fellow competitors, the fans, management, or employees of Hawkeye Downs Speedway. 

 

ALTHOUGH EVERY EFFORT HAS BEEN DIRECTED TOWARD COMPLETE, UNDERSTANDABLE,

AND CORRECT RULES, AS WELL AS THE SAME FACTORS IN PUTTING THEM INTO PRINT,

HAWKEYE DOWNS SPEEDWAY OFFICIALS CANNOT POSSIBLY ANTICIPATE

EVERY SITUATION, CIRCUMSTANCE, OR INTERPRETATION.

 
THE DEFINITION OF STOCK:  NO MODIFICATIONS TO FACTORY PARTS OR FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS

 

Hawkeye Downs Speedway reserves the right to inspect, "tech," or “tear down”

any competing car at any time, regardless of finishing position.

 

 

 

GENERAL SAFETY RULES FOR DRIVERS

1.     Snell SA 95 or SA2000 helmet required and must be worn at all times car is on the track.

2.     SFI approved full fire suit, fire retardant gloves, fire retardant shoes, fire retardant socks and fire retardant neck brace required

3.     Head and neck restraints strongly recommended.  Flame retardant Head Sock and Undergarments recommended.

4.     Driver’s eye protection mandatory.  Full Face Helmets or Goggles Mandatory.

5.     Five point safety belts, sub belt, shoulder harness required.  Belt and shoulder harness must be mounted securely to roll cage.

 

TRUCKS

1.     Must run a 4412 2-barrel and 8 inch rims and tires. Minimum weight 3,000 at any time with driver. Call Hawkeye Downs.

 

ENGINES

1.     Competitors may use engines built to Hawkeye Downs rules, Mid American rules, or GM crate engines (88958603 or 88958602)

 

WEIGHTS AND MEASUREMENTS

1.     All weights and measurements taken with Driver in Driver's Seat, Wearing Helmet, Hands on Steering Wheel, determined by track scale only.

2.     Minimum weight for cars or trucks using Hawkeye Downs Engine, Mid American Engine,

        or GM "Limited Late Model" Crate Engine 88958603 is 2975 pounds (As determined by Track Scale only).

3.     Minimum weight for cars or trucks using GM "Factory Stock" Crate Engine 88958602 is 2900 lbs (As determined by Track Scale only).

3.     Maximum Left Side Weight 58 percent.

4.     All weight must be securely welded or bolted to frame or roll cage and identified with car number.   Must meet ground clearance minimum.

5.     Do not mount weight on firewall, fuel cell, battery mounts, floor pan, or within driver's compartment.

6.     $200 Fine for loss of added weight (ballast) on track.

CHASSIS/FRAME (See Diagram on Last Page)

1.     1978-1988 GM Metric Frame Only. Minimum Wheelbase 107 inches Measured from centerline of Front Wheel to Centerline of Rear Wheel    

2.     Maximum track width, front and rear, is 62 inches, measured at hub height, inside wheel to outside wheel.

3.     Frames must be cross braced or X-ed through center. Frames must be plated on inside of frame rails

4.     Rear Tail Section may be replaced from center of spring pocket to rear.

5.     Stock Upper Spring Pocket may be removed.  No alterations allowed to the rear mid-plate.

6.     Front cross member may be notched for fuel and power steering pump and oil filter.
7.     Minimum fuel pump clearance 1 inch.
8.     Top half of cross member may be collapsed 3/4 inch for oil pan clearance.
9.     Rear upper control arm mounting shelf may be raised a maximum of 1 inch without other alteration.

10.   All other areas of stock frame may not be altered or changed from the original manufactured design or size.

11.   No frame lightening, such as drilled holes, acid dripping, etc.

12    Outer spring skirt may be trimmed maximum of 2 1/2 in. up and 7 in. long to aid spring changes and for minimal shock clearance.             

13.   Minimum 6 inches frame height except front cross member.

14.   Tow hooks attached to frame rails mandatory front & rear, within easy reach of safety crew.

 

SUSPENSION

1.     All A-Frame, Trailing Arms, Steering Components and Suspension Mountings must remain stock for frame in factory frame position.

2.     Front upper control arms may be replaced with tubular drop-in replacement 1 piece control arms of stock length in stock location (+/- 1/2 in).

3.     Front suspension upper A-arm pad may be moved on the frame but must remain stock appearing, uncut and otherwise unaltered.
4.     No aftermarket or Dropped Spindles.

5.     No lightening of Suspension or Brake parts (such as drilled rotors, etc.).

6.     Shocks may be moved from stock location. 

7.     One Shock per Wheel.  No Schrader Valves. 

8.     No Aluminum Body or Coil Over Shocks Allowed. 

9.     Shock must be track approved and retail for less than $100 each.

10.   Stock or Racing Springs allowed.  5 inches minimum diameter Coil Spring.

11.   Weight Jacks or Screw Jacks allowed.  No Driver Adjustable Weight.

12.   Stock Upper A-Frames may be notched for Screw Jack clearance only.

13.   No Steel Offset Bushings in front or rear Suspension.  May use Offset Shaft or Bushings in Upper A-Arms Only.

14.   Ball joints must be used. Rod Ends or Mono Balls may be used on front and rear suspension.

15.   Any OEM type Sway Bar permitted.  Adjustable aftermarket Sway Bar Mount allowed.

16.   Racing type, machine manufactured Hub and Rotor package recommended for safety. Right Front Hub must be approved racing Safety Hub. 

17.   Front and Rear Full Faced Steel Hubs only. No Aluminum Hubs

 

STEERING

1.     OEM Steering Boxes and linkage.

2.     Aftermarket steel tie rod sleeves allowed.

3.     No Rack and Pinion steering. No Quick Steer devices

4.     Quick Release Steering Wheel required.  Safety Padding in center of Steering Wheel required. Impact Collar on Steering Shaft required.

5.     Aftermarket Steering Shaft must have safety sleeve.

6.     After market pulleys or remote reservoirs okay.

7.     No heim joints except for outer tie rod ends.

 

APPEARANCE

1.     All cars will be required to display a package of sponsor decals supplied by Speedway.

2.     All cars must be neat appearing with good paint job.  Must have headlight replica decals.  Tail light replica decals suggested.      

3.     A number of at least 16 inches or more in height must appear on both doors, or rear quarterpanels, in contrasting color (see General Rules). 

4.     Cars must display roof top numbers of 24 inches high, readable from the right side. 3 Digit Numbers must be approved by management, as well          as possible duplicate numbers.

5.     Must have Driver's Last Name at least 4 inches tall directly under Car Number on Doors and Roof/Quarterpanels (See General Rules)

6.     Must have car number on right front passenger side headlight and on one rear taillight.  

7      Minimum race weight must be printed on upper front corner of drivers door.

BODY RULES

1.     1990 through 2005 US manufactured full bodied passenger cars.  Body must remain in factory location.

2.     5 Star "Sportsman," 5 Star "Mid American," 5 Star "ASA," or Stock Sheet Metal only.  Aluminum Door Panels OK.

3.     All cars must have complete bodies, fenders, and trunks in stock configuration for the model and year (within one inch of stock).

4.     Outer wheel wells may be enlarged only for tire clearance.  Side panels may not be pulled out further than 1 inch from stock.

5.     Fabricated panels must retain stock appearance and dimensions. No unapproved aluminum, plastic, or rubber panels or parts

6.     Pin type hood and trunk fasteners only.  No chained or bolted hoods or trunks.

7.     Hood must seal at Windshield area.  Front of the Cowl must seal to back of the hood when hood is closed.

        2 1/2 in.X 20 in. "ASA type" Hood Opening allowed.  Hood must be flat or near flat.  No bubbled or pushed up center of hood.

8.     Minimum roof height: 51 inches.

9.     Body, frame, ballast, fuel cell, etc. behind rear tires minimum 11 inches off ground.

10.   Body side panels and nose minimum ride height: 5 inches.

  10. Maximum 5 inch X 60 inches spoiler may be mounted on trunk lid only.  Single plane only.  Spoiler must follow contour of body.

        No verticals, no sideboards, no lips, no wraparounds.

11.   Bars, plates, or pipes may not be welded or attached to the outside of any part of the body, except a 1 in. x 1 in rub rail touching the body

        the entire length from wheel well to wheel well.  Rub Rail must be painted the same as its background.

12.   Front Bumper must be in stock location.

13.   Nose piece shall be stock in appearance and dimension.  Must be installed at stock angles.

14.   Rear end of the car must be completely sealed, including area for taillights.  Rear bumper must be stock or molded rubber or fiberglass.

 

WINDOWS/OPENINGS AND WINDSHIELDS

1.     Clear glass or lexan windshield and rear window required.  All other glass must be removed. No Tinted Windshield or Rear Window

2.     Length, size, pillars, and area of windshield and all windows must be stock size, angle, and configuration.

3.     Minimum windshield angle 27 degrees or Five Star specifications for Five Star aftermarket body.

4.     Side window opening, measured from "B" pillar forward, must be minimum of 31 inches.

5.     "B" pillar wings must be perpendicular to or angled back from pillar inward.

6.     Windshield opening must have three upright braces.  Rear window opening must have two upright braces (3/8 inch steel minimum).

7.     Window nets are required and used at all times.  Quick Release or Latch Style Mounting must be used and must release from top. 

        Window net must be full size ribbon or mesh type.  Window nets must be attached to roll bars only.

 

INTERIORS

1.     Interior sheet metal must rise on a plane from the drive shaft tunnel to passenger window opening.
2.     Aluminum High Back Seats only.  Must be bolted to frame and roll cage.

3.     No ‘boxed in,’ 'shelved,' or ‘tunneled’ driver compartments.
4.     No plastic or composite material may be used inside the driver’s compartment.
5.     The driver’s compartment must be fully enclosed around the driver.
6.     Stock floor pan (plated) allowed.
7
.     No fuel lines passing through interior.

8.     All cars must have an approved fire extinguisher with its equipment within ready reach for any emergency. (See General Rules).

9.     All cars must have master kill switch, located behind driver.  Switch must be wired through negative side of battery.

10.   Drivers must monitor VHF Frequency 151.625. No two way radios.

 

ROLL CAGE (See Diagram on Last Page)

1.     All cars must have full 4-point, perimeter Roll Cage, Constructed with minimum 1 3/4 inches X .095 inches wall round DOM or EW Steel Tubing

2.     Main Hoop behind driver must be X-ed or cross-braced and securely welded to the frame on both sides.

3.     No Laid Back or Offset Roll Cages

4.     Roof Hoop (Halo Bar) and Main Hoop mounted as close to roof as possible.

5.     Roof Hoop minimum of 39 inches wide and safe distance from driver's head and padded.

6.     Diagonal halo support bar required.

7.     Diagonal roof support bar from cross bar behind driver up to left front corner of halo is strongly recommended.

8.     Center dash to halo bar mandatory, minimum 1 1/2 inches X .095 inches.

9.     Front of cage must have at least two cross supports side to side, one at dash level, one at roof.

10    Roof support not necessary if main roof bar is one continuous piece.

11.   Four driver side door bars mounted flush with outer door panel mandatory. 

12.   All driver side door bars must be plated with 1/8 inch steel from frame to top of the top door bar.

13.   Driver side door bars must have two upright bars between each door bar.

14.   Wing Window Bars mandatory on both sides.

15.   Perimeter foot protection bar from outside edge of door bars forward and curving into the frame required.  Minimum 1 3/4 in. X .095 in. tubing.

16.   Passenger side door must have three door bars mounted no closer to the driver than the center of the passenger side frame rail.

17.   Roll bar padding required.

18.   Engine compartment hoop and rear main hoop supports mandatory.

19.   All right angles should be gusseted.

ENGINES

 

UNALTERED DEFINITION

1.     All engine parts must be in their original and "as cast" configuration. 

2.     Any evidence of machining, sanding, polishing, relieving, grinding, porting, coating, chemical treating, abrasive blasting,

        or any other alterations to the original form or the addition of any material whatsoever to any ports or chambers is prohibited.

 

ENGINE BLOCK (BOTH HAWKEYE DOWNS AND MID AMERICAN RACING ENGINES)

1.     American made production V-8 Engines only (No V-6 or 4 Cylinders)

2.     Production Cast Iron Block with standard external measurements in all respects with the exception of the permissible overbore (.060 in. max.)

3.     No Aluminum Blocks.  Stock Production only.

4.     No removing of I.D. Numbers, No grinding or lightening.

5.     Minimum 4 inch Bore, Maximum 4.060 Bore.

6.     Engine must be centered between upper A-Frame Mounts
7.     Maximum Engine Setback (Measured from top of steering box mounting bolt to back of block): GM-33 1/2 inch; Ford-35 inch

8.     Minimum Engine Crankshaft Height 13 inches

 

ENGINE BLOCK (HAWKEYE DOWNS RACING ENGINE ONLY)

1.     Maximum Cubic Inches: GM-361, Ford-363, Chrysler 372

 

ENGINE BLOCK (MID AMERICAN RACING ENGINE ONLY)

1.     Maximum Cubic Inches: GM-Ford-358; Mopar: 366

 

CRANK (BOTH HAWKEYE DOWNS AND MID AMERICAN RACING ENGINES)

1.     Stock Stroke for Block

2.     Unaltered except for normal cleanup and balancing. 

3.     Cannot be gun drilled, contoured, or sculptured.

 

CRANK (HAWKEYE DOWNS RACING ENGINEONLY)

1.     No aftermarket light weight crank shafts

 

CRANK (MID AMERICAN RACING ENGINE ONLY)

1.     Minimum 50 pound Sportsman type magnetic cranks only.

 

RODS (HAWKEYE DOWNS RACING ENGINE ONLY)

1.     Stock Rods or Eagle SIR5700BBLW Replacement Rods.

 

RODS (MID AMERICAN RACING ENGINE ONLY)

1.     Magnetic forged sportsman type connecting rods only.

2.     No titanium, aluminum, or H Beam Rods

3.     6.0 inch maximum length.  560 grams minimum weight.

 

PISTONS (BOTH HAWKEYE DOWNS AND MID AMERICAN RACING ENGINES)

1.     Any flat top or reverse dome piston may be used.

2.     Valve Relief may be cut into piston.

3.     No portion of Piston may protrude above the top of the block.

 

CAMSHAFT/VALVE TRAIN (BOTH HAWKEYE DOWNS AND MID AMERICAN RACING ENGINES)

1.     Any Magnetic Steel Camshaft with maximum 1/2 inch lift measured at the valve retainer.

2.     Standard Timing Chain only. No Gear Drive or Belt Drive.

3.     Screw in Rocker Studs and Guide Plates allowed.  Valve Guides must  remain in stock location and dimensions.

4.     No Mushroom Valve Lifters, Rev Kits, or Roller Tappets.

5      No 5/16 inch Valve Stems

 

CAMSHAFT/VALVE TRAIN (HAWKEYE DOWNS  RACING ENGINE ONLY)

1      Full Roller Rockers allowed.

2      Stud Girdles OK

3      Any valve springs and retainers will be allowed. 

4      Solid or hydraulic lifters are optional.  Stock Lifter Bore Only.

 

CAMSHAFT/VALVE TRAIN (MID AMERICAN RACING ENGINE ONLY)

1      Roller Rockers only allowed on GM Votec head, Ford N351 head, and Mopar W2 head.  All other heads must use stock stamped rocker arms.

2      No Stud Girdles

3      Stock Production valve spring diameter only

4      Stock diameter magnetic steel hydraulic or solid flat tappets only.

HEADS (BOTH HAWKEYE DOWNS AND MID AMERICAN RACING ENGINES)

1.     No angle plug, no bowtie, no 461X, or other aftermarket heads.

2      Two Valves per Cylinder.

3.     No Titanium Valves.  

4.     Three Angle Valve Jobs permitted.

5.     Combustion Chamber Intake and Exhaust Ports must be in original "as cast" configuration.

6.     Sanding, Polishing, Relieving, Grinding, Porting, Chemical Treating, Ceramic Work, Abrasive Blasting, Alteration to Original Form,

        Addition of Material to the Ports or Combustion Chambers is strictly forbidden.

7.     No port matching or flow work is permitted. 

8.     When cutting the valve seat angles, no stone or grinding marks are permitted above the bottom of the valve guide.

9.     Surfaces where the cutter or stone has touched must not be polished. 

10.   No external sanding, grinding, or removal of ID numbers of symbols.

11.   Valves must be stock size and in stock location.

12.   Maximum Valve Diameter measured across the face (Non Vortec): Intake 2.02 in., Exhaust 1.60 in. (Ford Cleveland: Intake 2.19, Exhaust 1.74)

13.   Compression 10.8-1 MAXIMUM ON HAWKEYE DOWNS' WHISTLER.

 

HEADS (HAWKEYE DOWNS RACING ENGIN ONLY)

1.     Stock Steel Production Only or approved World Products Stock Replacement heads. (No GM Vortec heads)

2      Titanium Valve retainers OK

3.     Heads may be cut for dual springs.

4.     All valve angles must remain within one degree of stock production. Maximum bolt cut of 75 degrees.

 

HEADS (MID AMERICAN RACING ENGINE ONLY)

1.     Stock Steel Production Only (Including GM Vortec Heads)

2.     No Titanium Valve retainers

3.     Valve angles must be stock.

4.     Maximum valve diameter measured across the face for GM Vortec: Intake 1.94 inch; exhaust 1.50 inch

 

INTAKE MANIFOLD (BOTH HAWKEYE DOWNS AND MID AMERICAN RACING ENGINES)

1.     Eligible Unmodified Aluminum Intakes:

        GM (non Vortec): Edelbrock "Victor Junior" 2101 &  2975; Edelbrock "Performer" 2101 with EGR Port Only, (optional SB Chevy Power+Plus            HPR (Hurricane) Manifold Non-EGR #52031)

        Ford N351: Edelbrock "Performer" 2181 &  2171

        Ford OE Windsor: Edelbrock "Performer" 2181, 2171, 2980, & 2981.

        Mopar: Edelbrock "Performer" 2176 or 2915

2.     Older design intakes with similar part numbers not permitted.

3.     Any evidence of sanding, polishing, relieving, grinding, porting, chemical treating, abrasive blasting, ceramic work, addition of material,

        or any alteration to original form is forbidden

4.     Cooling bleed lines allowed.

 

INTAKE MANIFOLD (MID AMERICAN RACING ENGINE ONLY)

1.     Eligible Unmodified Aluminum Intake for GM Vortec: 7116 dual plane or Wieand 7546 and 7547.

 

CARBURETOR & SPACER PLATE (BOTH HAWKEYE DOWNS  AND MID AMERICAN RACING ENGINES)

1.     Carburetors will be checked with track "Go/No-Go" gauges.  Failure of this test results in disqualification and confiscation. 

        If in doubt, have carburetor checked before competing.

2.     One Stock Two Barrel, Holley Model 4412 500 CFM Carburetor.

3.     No alterations of, and/or no metal removed from the Carburetor, except the enlargement of Idle Hold in Throttle Plate.

4.     Choke Housing may not be removed.

5.     Choke Butterfly may be removed.

6.     Any non-porous aluminum adapter allowed.  Maximum 1.575 inches thick with paper type gaskets.  No home made carburetor adapters

7.     Carburetor Adapter/Spacer and Intake Manifold must be non-porous and Secure.  No Vacuum Leaks

8.     Jets may be changed.  No "Dial-A Jet" devices.

9.     No Chemicals or Materials may be added to Air Cleaner.

10.   No Additional Fuel Reservoir or Pressure Equalizing Systems allowed.

11.   Mandatory Double Throttle Return Springs, working in opposite directions.

CRATE ENGINES

1.     Late Model Sportsmen competitors may use unaltered GM "Factory Stock" (88958602) or

        "Limited Late Model" (88958603) Crate Engines.

2.     Hawkeye Downs officials reserve the right to impound and/or replace any competitors crate engine at any time. 

3      Any engine found to be tampered with results in loss of all points for the season, and confiscation of engine by Hawkeye Downs.

4.     Protest fee to open crate engine is $1000.  If engine found legal, resealed engine will be returned to competitor.

        If Engine is illegal, $1000 will be returned to protestor and engine will be confiscated by Hawkeye Downs.

5.     Refusal to allow impounding for tech or confiscation of engine will result in loss of all points for the season.

6.     NO aftermarket engine damper allowed. You must use damper from engine manufacturer.

 

CARBURETOR (CRATE ENGINES ONLY)

1.     All crate engines must use unaltered, box stock 650 cfm Holley 4150 HP P/N 80541-1.

2.     One Inch, Single Plane, Non adjustable Carburetor Spacer Allowed.

3.     Track Officials will exchange carburetors on a regular basis. 

4.     Any Carburetor found to be tampered with will result in disqualification from event and confiscation of carburetor.

5.     Refusal to allow confiscation of carburetor will result in disqualification from event.

 

EXHAUST

1.     Maximum 1 5/8 inch, over or under chassis, single pipe, straight tube, collector header only. 

2.     No stainless steel collectors.

3.     No 180 degree headers.

4.     Must exit behind driver, under car or body panels, to Infield Side of Car.  May not exit on Grandstand Side of Car.

5.     No Body Panel modifications for exhaust.

6.     Must have Mufflers and must not exceed 98db.  See General Rules for Penalties

7.     3 inches maximum OD plumbing, except for muffler bodies. Must start within 6 inches of header collector or exhaust manifold.

 

OIL SYSTEM

1.     Oil pan access hole with a minimum of 1 inch diameter for connecting rod inspection required.

2.     Aftermarket oil pans and breathers allowed

3.     Oil Pump must be in stock location. No Dry Sumps

4.     Single Stage External Pump as OE replacement on Ford only.

5.     No Pumps to create a Crank Case Vacuum.

 

TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH

1.     American made O.E.M. manual transmissions, Richmond T-10, Winters 60100L, Brinn 70001, Bert LMZ Plain Allowed.

2.     At least 2 forward gears and reverse gear must be operable.

3.     No "quick change" transmission units allowed

4.     Steel scatter shield required for all transmissions.  Two, 1 inch holes, placed front to rear with access from top of car.

5.     No external lightening or alterations except engagement and shifting modifications.

6.     No Reverse Mount Gear Drive Starters

7.     Stock dimension unaltered cast iron or steel flywheels allowed. Aluminum flywheels are allowed and must be of stock type and diameter.

 

REAR END & DRIVE SHAFT

1.     Rear ends must be passenger car, light truck (1/2 ton or less) or quick change.

        Quick change must have minimum ring gear diameter of 10 inches.

2.     9 inch Ford Rear Ends legal for all models. 

        Metric OEM brake parts may be used on 9 inch Ford Rear End.  Aftermarket Brake Mounting Bracket legal.

3.     Iron or steel carriers and housings on passenger car and light truck rear ends.

4.     No titanium or other exotic metals allowed in rear end.  All shafts and gears must be magnetic steel.

5.     Rear End Yoke must be Magnetic Steel.

6.     Locked Rear Ends are Legal.  Spool Lock recommended.

7      Full Floater Rear End recommended.  All Floater Parts must be steel with the exception of the drive flange.

8.     No Traction Control Differentials or Traction Control Devices of any kind.   No "Detroit Locker," "Gold Track," or similar devices. 

9.     No aluminum or lightweight axle tubes. No Gun drilled axles.

10.   No Offset Rear Ends. No Cambered Rear Ends. All Axle and Drive Flanges must be equal distance from the frame rail on either side.

11.   One piece magnetic steel or aluminum drive shafts.  Minimum diameter 2 1/2 inches O.D. Drive Shaft must be painted white.

12.   At least one (2 recommended) drive shaft hoop required.  Must be within 6 inches of Front U Joint.

BRAKES

1.     All cars must have four wheel, foot operated, Hydraulic Brakes in good working order.  All four wheel brakes must be operational at all times with no shut of or cut off valves.  No traction control devices in brake system.

2.     Brake Metering Valve may be used

3.     OEM Cast Brake Calipers only. No lightening or altering.

4.     Brake Ducting permitted.

5.     Aftermarket Mounting Brackets may be used.

6.     No Brake Floater devices.

7.     Metric OEM brake parts may be used on 9 inch Ford Rear End.

8.     Only one Brake Bias Adjusting Unit per car.

 

WHEELS

1.     8 inch steel wheels only.  Minimum Weight 19 pounds.  May be any offset that maintains legal track width.

2.     IMCA labeled wheels legal if they meet other wheel rules

3.     5/8" studs on front and rear hubs recommended.

4.     Steel Lug Nuts Only. Stud threads must extend past outside edge of lug nut.

5.     Self adjusting, automatic, air bleeder valves NOT allowed.

6.     Wheel Weights NOT allowed.

 

TIRES

1.    All cars use 8 inch Hoosier F 75 tires.

2.    All race tires must be declared in the tech barn prior to use, otherwise driver can be penalized.  (Consult 2007 Tire Sales Rules/Limits)

3.    No heating, soaking, softening, grinding, buffing, or changing the composition and character of tire allowed.

 

RADIATOR & COOLING

1.     Any radiator allowed provided it fits under the hood in stock location. Aluminum radiators allowed.

2.     Fan must have a shroud covering upper part of fan.  May not protrude through hood.

3.     Overflow catch can, 2 quart (1/2 gallon) or more, must be permanently installed ahead of engine firewall.

4.     No cooling system components inside driver's compartment.

5.     Electric Fans Allowed.

6.     No use of antifreeze allowed.  Disqualification if spilled on track.

 

FUEL CELL

1.     Must be approved racing fuel cell, separated from driver by complete metal firewall, secured with minimum four 1 1/2 in. X 1/8 in. straps.

2.     Maximum capacity 22 gallons. Must be constructed of at least 16 gauge steel.

3.     Minimum fuel cell ground clearance 11 inches.

4.     Bladder type (soft cell) fuel cells recommended.

FUEL     

1.     All competitors must use Race Fuel approved by Hawkeye Downs Speedway.  No Fuel additives of any kind. 

2.     No Fuel lines passing through interior (driver's compartment).

3.     No nozzles, injectors, containers or lines for the purpose of dispersing pressurized liquids or gasses, other than fire extinguishers, allowed.

4.     Stock Type, Mechanical Fuel Pump only.  No Electric Fuel Pumps

 

ELECTRICAL

1.     No Traction Control Devices of any kind.  1 calendar year suspension &  $2500 fine for use of traction control.

2.     No magnetos, crank trigger, multiple coil or programmable systems allowed.

3.     On/Off Master Kill Switch must be located behind the driver within six inches of window and painted bright orange.

4.     No Digital Gauges or electronic monitoring computer devices capable of storing or transmitting information (except analog tachometer).

5.     All electrical wiring must be exposed.  No open ended wires or open plugs. Track Reserves right to remove conduit or insulation to trace wires.

6      Dual points, breaker, or breaker less systems allowed.

7.     No MSD or HEI Boxes.  No adjustable ignition control boxes.  No timing retard controls.

8.     Batteries must be securely mounted between the frame rails, forward of the rear axle and covered.

9.     Must have working starter.  After market Starter OK.  Must be mounted in stock location using stock hardware

 

 

 

RADIOS

1.     2-Way Radios may be used, but Driver or Spotter must also monitor VHF Frequency 151.625.  Failure to monitor 151.625, team will be          disqualified.

2.     Team must register frequency with Track Officials, who will also monitor communications.

3.     Spotter may stand in approved area, but can not interfere with spectators enjoyment of the event.  Misconduct by Spotter, including            but not limited to vulgarity, instructing driver to block, disobey rules, arguing with officials or other spotters, will result in                             disqualification, fine and suspension.
