LINE-UP SET FOR HAWKEYE DOWNS FAIR

FREE ADMISSION ALL DAYS

 

(Cedar Rapids, IA 5/19/03)—The schedule has been set for the “Hawkeye Downs Fair,” scheduled Wednesday, June 11 through Sunday, June 15 at the Hawkeye Downs Fairgrounds in Cedar Rapids.

 

            For the first time, admission and parking to the Fairgrounds are free for all five days of the fair. In the past, there was a grounds admission charge.

 

            Three major bands will perform on the Hawkeye Downs Speedway stage during the fair. On Friday, June 13, Heavy Metal stars “Quiet Riot” will perform. On Saturday, June 14, Rockers “Loverboy” will entertain. On Sunday, June 15, the “KHAK Free Country Concert” features John Michael Montgomery. Showtimes for Friday and Saturday are 8pm, 6pm on Sunday.

 

            Other musical attractions are scheduled for the Miller Tavern On The Mall. They include Karoake Wednesday, June 11 at 9:30pm, “The Swing Crew” Thursday, June 12 at 9:30pm, “Party Mix Specialists” Friday, June 13 at 10:30 pm, and “Large Midgets” Saturday, June 14 at 10:30pm.

 

            Motorsports will be a major attraction at the Hawkeye Downs Fair. On Wednesday, June 11, the 31st annual “Keith Fleck Miller 100”will be held. On Thursday, June 12, a special “Short Track Saturday Night” program will be held at the Speedway, while a Truck and Tractor Pull will take place in the South Arena. A car and combine demolition derby will be held Friday, June 13 at the South Arena. All Motorsports events start at 7:30pm.

 

            Other events include “Dr. Wand, Hypnotist” Friday, June 13 at 8pm in the Farm Youth Building; Championship Bull Riding” Saturday, June 14at 2pm in the South Arena, “national Wrist Wrestling Tournament” in the Miller Tavern on the Mall Saturday, June 14 at 4pm, and “Junior and Open Horse Show” at the South Arena Sunday, June 15at 10am.

 

            Several free events are planned during the run of the fair, including the ‘Iron Jack Lumberjack Show.””Perry’s Petting Zoo, “ and “Pat Doyle’s Chainsaw Carving.” The auction of Doyle’s carvings is Sunday, June 15, at 4pm near the Tavern on the Mall.

 

            Thomas Carnival will be on hand with traditional fair rides and games. The carnival offers “All You Can Ride Armbands” Wednesday, June 11 from 4-11pm, Thursday, June 12 4-11pm, and Sunday, June 15 1-8pm. The Carnival also offers $1 rides Saturday, June 14 Noon-5pm.

 

            Other attractions that charge a nominal fee include a Skydiving Simulator and Mechanical Bull Rides.

 

            A special Hawkeye Downs Fair Bingo Game will be played Thursday, June 12 in the Farm Youth Building.

 

            Fair hours are 4pm-Midnight Wednesday, June 11 and Thursday, June 12; 4pm-1am Friday, June 13; Noon-1am Saturday June 14; and Noon to 10pm Sunday, June 15.
