SEASON CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS FRIDAY
(Cedar Rapids, IA 09/03/2003)—Hawkeye Downs Speedway wraps up its regular season this Friday night, September 5 with the “Rainbow Paint and Sandblasting Season Championships.” Five ASA Papa John’s Cup Iowa Wireless Stock Car Championships” and two “Tobacco Outlet Plus Short track Championships” will be decided.
A
special on track autograph session with cars and drivers will be held from
6:30-7:15pm. Gates opn and practice starts at 5pm, with racing at 7:30pm. Adult
grandstand admission is $10, senior citizen and student grandstand admission is
$7, and children 11 and under are admitted free to the grandstand.
The most
competitive point race is the Budweiser Late Model Sportsmen. Four drivers are
separated by just 16 points. Johnny Mudd leads runner-up Andy Duggan bu just 6
points, with Scott Wennermark 8 points back in third, and John Henecke 16
points out in fourth.
In
Miller Time Modifieds, Bob Gase leads Larry Clausen by only 12 points. Third
place Brian Allen is also in the running, 30 points out of first.
Bob
Ahrendsen leads Jim Hanson by just 12 points in Barron Motor Supply Super
Stocks.
In
Performance Concepts Late Models, Johnny Spaw has an 18 point lead over Mike
Ehde.
The
Special K Motorsports Hobby Stock race is also close. Matt Poduska leads Bryce Mitchell by just 4 points.
Gwen
Christensen-Jones merely needs to start the Strauss Embroidery Women On Wheels
feature to win the championship.
In
Duffy’s Collectible Cars Legends, Landon Cassill has a two point lead over Tom
Frady. The championship is settled, however, as Frady is out with injuries
suffered last Friday night.
After
this Friday, there are four races left on the 2003 Hawkeye Downs Speedway
schedule. Upcoming events include the “Quarter Mile Challenge Tune-Up Race”
Saturday, September 27; the “Quarter Mile Challenge” Saturday and Sunday
October 11 and 12; the “Halloween Challenge” Saturday, November 1; and the “2nd
annual Turkey derby” Saturday, November 29.
