ASA LATE MODELS RACE AT HAWKEYE DOWNS THIS SATURDAY
(Cedar Rapids, IA 8/31/04)--The racing action moves to
Saturday night this week at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in
Cedar Rapids. The
ASA Late Model series comes to
town, with 40 cars and drivers representing 10 states
expected.
Leading
the way is multiple ASA National Champion
Gary St. Amant of Columbus, OH. St. Amant has been a
fan favorite at Hawkeye Downs in previous ASA National
Tour appearances.
He will be driving a car owned by
local businessman Roger Cassill.
Bobby
Stremme of South Bend, IN leads the ASA Late
Model point standings.
Scott Baker of Talmadge, OH
is second, 166 points out of first. Ryan Tedesco of
New Philadelphia, OH; Doug True of Dowagiac, MI; and
Jason Setser of Columbus, IN round out the top five.
All are expected to race this Saturday at Hawkeye
Downs.
The event
will have a local flavor, with three
Hawkeye Downs Performance Concepts Late Model
competitors among those racing for the $16,000+ purse.
Point leader Brad
Osborn will compete, along with
teenage stars Landon Cassill and Kyle Hinrichs.
They'll be able to use their own cars, as Hawkeye
Downs rules and ASA Late Model rules are now very
close.
The event
is sponsored by Barron Motor Supply, and
will include qualifying races and 100 lap feature for
the ASA Late Models.
Also on the program are 4 "ASA
Papa John's Cup I-Wireless Championship" divisions.
Highlighting the local racing will be the biggest race
of the season for Barron Motor Supply Super Stocks,
the "Barron Motor Supply 50"
Also
racing Saturday are Budweiser Late Model
Sportsmen, Miller Time Modifieds, and Marines.com IMCA
Hobby Stocks.
Grandstand
gates open and practice starts at 2pm
Saturday . ASA
Late Model time trials are at 5pm,
with on track autographs for all divisions at 6:30pm.
Racing starts at 7:30pm , with the "Barron Motor
Supply 100" ASA Late Model race at 8:30pm.
Adult
grandstand admission Saturday is $15, Seniors
and Students grandstand admission is $10, Children 11
and under are admitted to the grandstand for $1.
The closest
point race is in the Modifieds, with Tim
Plummer ahead of defending champ Bob Gase by just 4
points. After
Saturday, the Modifieds have 3 points
races (September 10, September 24, and October 1).
The Super
Stocks are also close. Dave McCalla
leads
Paul Walder by just 6 points. After Saturday, the
Super Stocks have just two point races (September 10
and September 24) and one non-points race (on the half
mile, October 1).
Scott Wennermark
continues to dominate Budweiser Late
Model Sportsmen.
Wennermark's 7 feature wins give him
a 24 point lead over John Henecke with just two point
races (September 24 and October 1) left after
Saturday.
Matt
Poduska has a 37 point lead over Terry Shaffer
in Hobby Stocks.
After Saturday, the Hobbies have
just one point race (September 24) and two non-point
races (September 10 and October 1).
Performance Concepts Late Models and Women on Wheels
have the week off.
Brad Osborn
is the Late Model point leader, 72 points
ahead of his father Denny Osborn. Late Models have
three point races left (September 10, September 24,
and October 1).
Kandi
Floyd leads Women On Wheels, 6 points ahead of
Jessica Hoffman. Women On Wheels have three point
races remaining (September 10, September 24, and
October 1).
