two rainouts, Hawkeye Downs Speedway roared back to life Friday night August 27
with Casey’s General Stores presenting racing in seven divisions.

In racing action,
Nathan Ballard of Marengo earned his 8th win of the season in Barron
Motor Supply IMCA Hobby Stocks. Apparent winner Jeff Franks failed post-race
inspection elevating the second place finisher Ballard to the winner’s slot.
Roland Bohnsack, Brad Chandler, Malena Betzer, and Shane Koopman all finished
in the top five. With the win, Ballard has all but wrapped up the I-Wireless
/Papa Johns Cup season championship in that division.

Brian Franks took top
honors in Barron Motor Supply IMCA Stock cars, earning his third win of the
season. Franks started in row two, made an early move past Kurt Bohnsack, and motored
to the win 1.297 seconds ahead of point leader Bob Ahrendsen. Jim Hanson , Cory
Houdek, and Mark Bolton rounded out the rest of the top five.

Tim Plummer of Norway
racked up the first of two feature wins Friday night by winning the Budweiser
Modified feature. Plummer took the lead from fellow Norway driver Ryan Luedtke
on lap six and was never challenged the rest of the way as he posted win number
10 in the division.
Luedke finished
second with Larry Clausen, the only other driver to win a Modified feature this
season, finishing third. Brian Allen was fourth and Arlo Becker crossed the
stripe in fifth.

SportMods, Aric Becker inherited the with five laps to go after leader Blake
Carson spun. Becker went on to win his sixth trip to victory lane, finishing
ahead of Tim Dains, Carson, and Brogan Fiala.

Dave McCalla topped
the Speed-e-Pan Sportsmen feature, posting his third win of the year. McCalla,
who’s had a rough season, started inside row two and moved into second after running
a great side-by-side battle with Andy Duggan near the halfway mark of the
feature. Travis Thompson led much of the race before he and Duggan tangled with
four laps to go, putting McCalla on the point for the restart.
Ben Glascock finished
second with Duggan rallying for third while Thompson was fourth. Greg Hentrich
finished fifth.

The Sunline hornets
feature was a “Chandler Trifecta” of sorts as Brad, Dallas and Nathan took the first
three slots in the 20-lap feature. Nathan Chandler led much of the race before
lapped traffic tripped him up a bit in the late going and Brad slipped into the
lead with Dallas close behind.

only one early caution.

PERFORMANCE CONCEPTS LATE MODELS

Tim Plummer scored
his second feature win of the night by picking up the performance Concepts Late
Model feature. It was his fifth win of the season in that division.
Brad Dvorak led the
first lap before but caution waved shortly after as he and Kyle Hinrichs made
contact. Dvorak was awarded the lead back for the restart but Tim Plummer, who
had been riding in third prior to the caution, took the point on lap three and
never surrendered the spot the rest of the way.
Thor Anderson finished nearly two seconds back in second followed by
Hinrichs, Dvorak, and Justin Jennings.
