POINT RACES VERY CLOSE WITH JUST TWO WEEKS LEFT

(Cedar Rapids, IA  8/26/03)—The point races remain very close with just two “ASA Papa John’s Cup Iowa Wireless Stock Car Championship” events remaining at Hawkeye Downs Speedway.

 

            This Friday night, August 29, six divisions will be in action, including Performance Concepts Late Models, Miller Time Modifieds, Budweiser Late Models Sportsmen, Barron Motor Supply Super Stocks, Duffy’s Collectible Cars Legends, and Special K Motorsports IMCA Stock Cars.

 

            Friday’s event includes the Season Championship for IMCA Stock Cars and the Papa Johns Legends Classic.

 

            Friday is “Back to School Night” with everyone 18 and under admitted Free. Adult Admission is $10, with Senior Citizens admitted for $7. Gates open at 6pm with Racing at 7:30pm.

 

            The championship for Special K Motorsports IMCA Stock Cars will be decided Friday. Larry Silbaugh is the point leader, just 4 points ahead of Ronnie Godwin.

 

            The Budweiser Late Models Sportsmen race remains the closest, with just 40 points separating the top six drivers. Johnny Mudd is the leader, 12 points ahead of Andy Duggan. John Henecke is third, 14 points behind the leader. Others in the running are Scott Wennermark, 16 points back, Curt Van Der Wal 34 points back, and Kevin Korsmo, 40 points back.

 

            Bob Gase has taken the lead in Miller Time Modifieds, but his margin is just 4 points over Larry Clausen.

 

            Bob Ahrendsen is the new Barron Motor Supply Super Stocks leader, just two points ahead of Jim Hanson.

 

            Tom Frady’s lead is down to 4 points over Landon Cassill in Duffy’s Collectible Cars Legends.

 

            Johnny Spaw has a 20 point lead over Mike Ehde in Performance Concepts Late Models.

 

            Remaining events on the Hawkeye Downs Speedway schedule include the “Season Championships” next Friday, September 5; the “Quarter Mile Challenge Tune-Up race” Saturday, September 27, the “Quarter Mile Challenge Cup” Saturday and Sunday October 11-22, the “Halloween Challenge” November 1, and the “2nd Annual Turkey Derby” November 29.
