AHRENDSEN, SCOTT, GOODIN BAG
WINS IN RAIN-SHORTENED NIGHT AT HAWKEYE DOWNS
(Cedar Rapids, IA 082401)—The “on again”—“off again” rain
showers that plagued the area Friday stayed “on” a little too long forcing
Hawkeye Downs officials to pull the plug after three features Friday night. The
evening’s program started nearly on time after the track was dried following a
late afternoon shower. As the Modifieds took to the track for their first
feature of the night the rains came again and with an unfavorable forecast the
action was called.
Rain Checks
will be honored for the August 31 Season Championship program.
Bob Ahrendsen
won his second feature of the 2001 season in the Barron Motor Supply Super Stocks
and in doing so took the lead in the points chase. He holds a narrow 7-point
margin over Brad Dvorak who finished 10th in the second Super Stock
feature after suffering mechanical problems in that race.
Finishing
behind Ahrendsen in the first feature were John Ness and Derrick Griesehop.
The second
Super Stock feature went to Jayson Scott, who picked up his first feature win
of the season. Scott held off Kurt Bohnsack in the closing laps for the win
with Bohnsack settling for the second slot.
Brian Franks finished third.
BJ Goodin
visited Coca-Cola Victory Lane once again after winning his 7th A-1 Performance
Marine Legends feature of the season. In typical fashion Goodin motored through
the pack and finished comfortably ahead of the pack. Tom Frady was second with
Kyle Hinrichs third.
