MCCALLA, PLUMMER, BOHNSACK POST “WALL
OF FAME” NIGHT WINS

addition to racing, 10 more inductees were named to the Hawkeye Downs Wall of

Dirt Late Model standout Steve Kosiski of
Others honored on the special
night are former Hawkeye Downs Late Model champion Larry Kelley of Cedar
Rapids, legendary NASCAR star and IMCA champion Johnny Beauchamp, former track
promoter Dale Gegner, fair board member Leo Pfeiffer,
Sprint/Midget drivers Lou Holland and Cliff Blundy.
On
the racetrack, Dave McCalla picked up his 6th feature win of the
season in the 30-lap
Budweiser Sportsmen feature. McCalla took the point at the
halfway mark and crossed the stripe .839 seconds ahead of second-place Mel
Schappert. Andy Duggan, who’s only been able to race pert-time this season,
finished third followed by Bob Ahrendsen, and Michael Weber.
Mike
Schulte celebrated induction into the Hawkeye Downs Wall of Fame
, claiming the win in the Coors Might Modified feature. Schulte, who’d
raced a handful of times this season, held off Larry Clausen after the race
leader Tim Plummer and Arlo Becker tangled.
Tony Olson finished a strong third while Tim Plummer rallied from the
back to finish fourth. Cory Houdek was fifth.
In
Barron Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars, point leader Kurt Bohnsack raced to his
seventh win of the season after making an outside pass of
Gary
Pfantz, “the flying farmer, ” racked up his tenth win
of the season in Barron Motor Supply IMCA Hobby Stocks. Pfantz, took command after
an early battle with Roland Bohnsack and motored to the win. Bohnsack
maintained second while another strong competitor this season, Dennis Klinsky,
crossed the stripe in third. Scott Siems, who has struggled at times this
season finished fourth with Deb Mefford, posting another good run with a fifth
place run.
The
Sunline Hornets
feature went to Derek Parrott which gives him a one point edge
over Jim Hanson heading into next Friday night’s season championships. The win
was Parrott’s third of the season. Brad Chandler finished second on the track
with Jasen freeman posting an impressive run winding
up in third. Jeff Selfridge finished fourth while Hanson was fifth.
Finally, Aric
Becker scored his second win of the season in IMCA Sportmods finishing ahead of
Jamie Huff. Brian Gibson finished third in his third outing of the season. That win coupled with disqualifications for
both point leader Ryan Luedtke, and second place in points Arnie Reif has
totally scrambled the point chart in that division.
The
regular racing season concludes next Friday night August 29 as Barron Motor Supply presents the
Season Championships.
