BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT FEATURES NEXT TO LAST POINT RACES

 

(Cedar Rapids, IA  08/20/02)—This Friday night is “KRNA/KHAK Back to School Night” at Hawkeye Downs Speedway. Students 17 and Under will be admitted free. A “Hochstetler Towing Kids Bike Giveaway” will be held for Children 11 and Under. Adult Grandstand Admission is $10, or $7 with KHAK Card or KRNA Coupon. Senior admission is $7.

 

            Friday’s event is the next to last point race for the “ASA Papa Johns Cup Iowa Wireless Stock Car Championship.” All five divisions will be in action with dashes, heats and features.

 

            Four of the divisional races will go down to the final week, but one could be settled this Friday.

 

            Curt Van Der Wal would win his second straight Budweiser Sportsmen championship by finishing 12th or better in this week’s feature.

 

            In two divisions, drivers have a championship in sight. Mike Schulte will win his 12th championship in Miller Time Modifieds by finishing 9th or better in each of the last two features. Kyle Hinrichs will notch his 1st Foreman Hydraulics Legends title by finishing 11th or better in each of the last two features.

 

            Two championship races remain very close. Johnny Spaw leads Brian Gibson by just 8 points in Performance Concepts Late Models. Brad Dvorak leads Kurt Bohnsack by only 6 points in Barron Motor Supply Super Stocks.

 

            Grandstand gates open at 6pm Friday. Racing resumes begins at 7:30pm.

 

            Also scheduled this weekend at Hawkeye Downs is the “Season Championship” for “Short Track Saturday Night.” Racing starts at 7:30pm.
