ARC BENEFIT THIS FRIDAY AS CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLES WIND DOWN
(Cedar Rapids, IA 8/12/02) Friday night is the ARC of East Central Iowa Benefit race at Hawkeye Downs. A portion of Grandstand Ticket Sales proceeds benefit ARC (Association for Retarded Citizens).
All five ASA Papa Johns Cup Iowa
Wireless Stock Car Championship divisions will be in action. Two points races
remain very close. After Friday, there are just two point races remaining on
the schedule.
Grandstand gates open and practice
starts at 6pm Friday with racing at 7:30pm. Adult grandstand admission is $10,
Senior Citizens and Students admission is $7, with Children 11 and under
admitted Free with Adult.
In Performance Concepts Late Models,
Brian Gibson has taken back the lead from Johnny Spaw. Gibson has a 10 point
lead. TJ Schaefer remains in the championship hunt, 38 points out of first.
In Barron Motor Supply Super Stocks,
defending champ Brad Dvorak is the leader, just two points ahead of his team
mate Kurt Bohnsack. Doug Simon is third, also in the running for the title, 16
points out of first.
Mike Schulte leads Miller Time
Modifieds, a healthy 36 points ahead of both Larry Clausen and Brian Allen, who
are tied for second. Feature finishes of 6th or better in the last
three races will earn Schulte the title, no matter what Clausen and Allen do.
Lyle Hinrichs is in a similar
position in Foreman Hydraulics Legends. Hinrichs has a 34 point lead over Chris
Sevey, and will win the title by finishing 6th or better in the last
three features.
Curt Van Der Wal is closing in on
his second straight Budweiser Sportsmen title. Van Der Wal has a 72 point lead
over Brian Franks. Van Der Wal will win the championship with finishes of 12th or better in all three
remaining features.
Also this weekend at Hawkeye Downs
is the next to last “Short Track Saturday Night” event of the season. Start
times Saturday are the same as Friday. Saturday grandstand admission is $7
Adults, Seniors/Students $5, Children 11 and Under Free.
