REPEAT WINNERS DOMINATE
FRIDAY’S ACTION AT HAWKEYE
(
Steve Carlson and Johnny Spaw made up a dominant front row in the 40-lap Miller Lite Late Model feature but Carlson wasted little time in
securing the point as he led the first lap and every lap after in picking up
his 5th win of the season.
McGrath maintained second while fast
qualifier Thor Anderson finished third. Curt VanDerWal,
the only other driver that’s won a feature this season was fourth followed by
Johnny Spaw.
Budweiser Sportsmen point leader Dave
McCalla has been absent from victory lane since early
June but he rectified that Friday night in a big way as he dominated the field
in the 25-lap feature. McCalla started outside row two, moved to the lead on
the third lap and went on to post a 5.5 second win over second-place Michael
Weber. Kevin Lee finished third while Mel Schappert
and Jim Williams finished out the top of the order.
Another driver that’s been absent
from victory lane for a few weeks is Arlo Becker from the Coors Light
Modifieds. Becker held off Tim Plummer in the closing laps to claim the second feature win of his 50th
season of racing. Plummer, who leads the points, crossed the stripe in second
followed by Tony Olson, Larry Clausen, and Aric
Becker.
Moving to the quarter mile, Kurt Bohsnack racked up win number six in the Barron Motor
Supply IMCA Stock Car feature. Rodney Grother bolted
into the lead early but Bohsnack moved from his
eighth starting spot to second by lap seven and then slipped into the lead on
lap eleven. Brian Franks, who won during last Wednesday’s “Dirt at the
Gary Pfantz
“rubberstamped” his name at the top of the
finish order for the Barron Motor Supply IMCA Hobby Stocks as he
collected his ninth feature win of the season. Pfantz,
who seems to be able to run anywhere on the track, started outside row three and moved
through the pack but while he was battling his
way to the front Shawn Myers was amassing a huge lead that looked
insurmountable until a caution on lap nine.
Pfantz
took command three laps after the restart and then survived a caution with five
laps to go to lay claim to the win. Roland Bohnsack, the only other driver to
win features in the division, finished second with Myers, Dennis Klinsky, and Ed O’Brien all running in the top five.
Brad Chandler brought home his fifth
win of the season in the Sunline Hornets taking the
lead from his brother Nathan with eight laps to go. Nathan maintained second
while co-point leader Derek Parrott finished third. Jeff Selfridge crossed the stripe in fourth followed by the
other co-point leader coming into the night, Jim Hanson.
Ryan Luedtke
took the point on lap three of the IMCA SportMod feature and motored on to win
his fifth race of the season. Aric Becker finished
second while Scott Kositzky was third, Arnie Reif fourth, and Jamie Huff
was fifth.
Terry Clayton put his 1971 Mustang
Mach 1 in victory lane as winner of the Nostalgia Stock Club of
Tanner Allen topped a short field of
GoKarts adding another winner’s trophy to his
collection.
