BIG LATE MODEL SPORTSMAN RACE FRIDAY
(Cedar Rapids, IA 8/5/03—The biggest Budweiser Late Models Sportsman race of the season, the “Budweiser 50,” is this Friday night, August 8 at Hawkeye Downs Speedway. Friday’s program is round 13 of the “ASA Papa Johns Cup Iowa Wireless Stock Car Championship, “ and also includes Performance Concepts Late Models, Miller Time Modifieds, Barron Motor Supply Super Stocks, and Special K Motorsports IMCA Stock Cars.
The
point races remain close, and the Budweiser Late Model Sportsmen battle is the
tightest.
John
Henecke is back in front in the Late Model Sportsmen, but his lead is just 2
points over Curt Van Der Wal, 6 points over Andy Duggan and Johnny Mudd, and 14
points over Scott Wennermark.
The
Performance Concepts Late Model standings are also close. Johnny Spaw is the
leader, just 4 points ahead of Jim Ross and 12 points ahead of Mike Ehde.
The
Barron Motor Supply Super Stocks have turned into into a three driver race. Jim
Hanson is the leader, 16 points ahead of Arnie Reif. Bob Ahrendsen is third, 22
points out of first.
There’s
also a three driver championship race in the Special K Motorsports IMCA Stock
Cars. Doug Simon is the leader, 11 points ahead of Larry Silbaugh and 15 points
ahead of Ronnie Godwin.
There’s
a two driver championship in Miller Time Modifieds. Larry Clausen is the
leader, 22 points ahead of Bob Gase.
Grandstand
gates open and practice starts at 6pm. Racing begins at 7:30pm. Adult
Grandstand admission is $10, with Senior Citizens and Students admitted for $7,
and Children 11 and under admitted Free.
After
Friday’s race, only 4 “2003 ASA Papa Johns Cup Iowa Wireless Stock Car
Championship” events remain.
