RETURNS TO HAWKEYE DOWNS THIS FRIDAY, AUGUST 6
WALL
OF FAME CEREMONIES TO INDUCT 10
(Cedar Rapids, IA 8/3/04)--Open Wheel USAC racing
returns to Hawkeye Downs Speedway for the final time
this season this Friday night, August 6. The "USAC
Midwest Ford Focus Midget Series" makes its second
appearance of the season, along with four divisions of
"ASA Papa John's Cup I-Wireless Championship"
stock
car racing.
Friday is
also "Historic Racing Reunion Night" with
10 new names added to the Hawkeye Downs Speedway
"Wall
of Fame."
The new inductees are: Roger Bear, Dick
Benken, Paul Draper, Tom Hearst, Fred Horn, Tom
Hughes, Danny Kladis, Buzz Rose, Willard Yates, and
Bill Zwanziger.
Vintage
race cars will take to the track and will be
on display after the races.
Tate Martz
of Rushville, IN, the winner the first
"USAC Midwest Ford Focus Midget Series" race at
Hawkeye Downs in June, is the series point leader.
Drivers from
Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Ohio,
Pennsylvania, and Ontario are expected to compete.
The four
weekly divisions in action will be
Performance Concepts Late Models, Miller Time
Modifieds, Budweiser Late Model Sportsmen, and
Marines.com IMCA Hobby Stocks. All four divisions
will run a full program of heats and features.
The
closest point race among the divisions racing
Friday is in Miller Time Modifieds. Defending champ
Bob Gase has won two straight features, and now lead
the standings, 2 points ahead of Tim Plummer.
Scott
Wennermark won both Budweiser Late Model
Sportsmen features last Friday, and now leads the
standings by 10 points over John Henecke.
Brad Osborn won his 6th Performance
Concepts Late
Model feature last Friday, and leads the standings by
48 points over Chris Sevey.
Matt
Poduska didn't win the Marines.com IMCA Hobby
Stocks last week, but his 3 feature wins this season
give him a 35 point lead over Terry Shaffer and Roland
Bohnsack, who are tied for second.
Grandstand
gates open and practice starts at 6pm
Friday, with racing at 7:30pm. Adult grandstand
admission is $10, senior citizens and students
admission is $7, and children 11 and under are
admitted to the grandstand for $1.
