HAWKEYE DOWNS SEASON IN THE HOMESTRETCH

 

(Cedar Rapids, IA 8/2/05)—The Papa John’s Cup I-Wireless Championship at Hawkeye Downs Speedway is in the homestretch.  Just four races remain in the series for all six divisions.

 

This Friday, its “Elite Rentals/All Clear Historic Racing Reunion Night.” Highlights include the biggest and richest race of the season for Miller Time IMCA Asphalt Modifieds, “Wall of Fame” induction ceremonies, and an exhibition of historic race cars.

 

The Modifieds will run 50 laps.  Tim Plummer is closing in on his second straight championship, with a healthy 45 point lead over a tie between Chad Willett and Rodney Rocarek.

 

Another driver closing on a championship is Kevin

Korsmo in Budweiser Late Model Sportsmen.   Korsmo has

a commanding 30 point lead over Ballard.

 

Also safely leading is Brad Dvorak in Barron Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars.  He has a 26 point lead over Bob Ahrendsen.

 

The other three point races remain interesting.

 

The closest is in Barron Motor Supply IMCA Hobby Stocks.  Brandon Herb leads Tim Dains by just two points.

 

Next closest is Performance Concepts Late Models.

Defending champ Brad Osborn leads Johnny Spaw by just

8 points.   Chris Sevey is also in the running,  22

points out of first.

 

Rick Gallo continues to lead the Marines.com Hornets,

18 points ahead of Derrick Beadle.

 

Practice starts and grandstand gates open at 6pm Friday with racing at 7pm.

 

Adult grandstand admission is $10, Senior Citizen and Student grandstand admission is $7, and Children 11 and under grandstand admission $1 with Adult, Senior, or Student.
