MID-AMERICAN TRUCKS RUN TWIN FEATURES THIS FRIDAY
(Cedar Rapids, IA 7/29/02) The “Planet Pages Mid-American Truck Series” returns to Hawkeye Downs Speedway this Friday night, with Twin 30 lap features. It’s the first time double features for the trucks have been presented at Hawkeye Downs.
Also scheduled Friday are “ASA Papa
Johns Cup Iowa Wireless Stock car Championship” races for Budweiser Sportsmen,
Miller Time Modifieds, and Foreman Hydraulics Legends.
The “Planet Pages Mid American Truck
Series” features Ford, Chevy, GMC, and Dodge Pick-up Trucks in 15 events at
paved ovals and road courses in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, and Iowa. Only
6 races remain after Friday’s Hawkeye Downs event.
Wisconsin drivers hold the top three
spots in the point standings, with Jeff Steenbergen and Jerry Seibel tied for
first. Mark Eberhart is third, 21 points back. Hawkeye Downs veteran Art
Christoffersen of Toddville is fourth, 30 points behind the leader.
Drivers from Wisconsin, Minnesota,
Missouri, and Iowa are expected, including local favorites Christoffersen and
Dave Coghlan of Marion.
Friday’s three local divisions races
are important, as only 4 events remain after this weekend.
Curt VanDerWal leads the Budweiser
Sportsmen, 52 points ahead of Brian Franks. Johnny Mudd is third, 2 points
behind Franks.
Mike Schulte has a 30 point lead
over Brian Allen in Miller Time Modifieds. Larry Clausen is third, 4 points
behind Allen,
Kyle Hinrichs has opened up a 34
point lead over Tom Frady in Foreman Hydraulics Legends. Kevin Foreman is
third, 18 points behind Frady.
Grandstand gates open and Truck
practice starts at 5pm Friday. Hawkeye Downs cars practice at 6pm. Trucks
qualify at 6:45 pm, with racing at 7:30pm.
Adult grandstand admission is $10,
Senior Citizens and Students admission is $7, with Children 11 and under
accompanied by an adult free.
