CHRISTMAS IN JULY THIS FRIDAY AT HAWKEYE DOWNS

 

(Cedar Rapids, IA  7/23/02) It’s “Rexco Bobcats Christmas in July” this Friday night, July 26. Santa Claus will make an appearance, with free diecast Bobcat toys for the first 200 Children 11 and under through the grandstand gates. Remote Control Bobcats will be given away to lucky Children, with other prizes for both Kids and Adults. Christmas lights and decorations will adorn the track.

 

            For the first time in five weeks, all five “ASA Papa Johns Cup Iowa Wireless Stock Car Championship” divisions will be racing.

 

            Three drivers are in the hunt for the Performance Concepts Late Model Championship. Brian Gibson is the leader, 14 points ahead of multi time champ Johnny Spaw. Mike Ehde is third, 28 points out of first.

 

            Three drivers are chasing the Budweiser Sportsmen title. Defending champ Curt Van Der Wal leads, 34 points ahead of Brian Franks and 50 points ahead of Johnny Mudd.

 

            Four drivers have a shot at the Miller Time Modified championship. Eleven time champ Mike Schulte leads, 32 points ahead of Larry Clausen and Brian Allen, who are tied for second. Bob Gase is fourth, 34 points behind Schulte.

 

            Three drivers are in the hunt for the Barron Motor Supply Super Stock title. Defending champ Brad Dvorak is the leader, 24 points ahead of second place Kurt Bohnsack, and 28 points ahead of third place Doug Simon.

 

            The closest championship battle is in Foreman Hydraulics Legends. Teenage driver Kyle Hinrichs has a slim two point lead over Kevin Foreman. Tom Frady is third, 28 points out of first.

 

            Grandstand gates open and practice starts at 6pm Friday with Racing at 7:30pm. Adult grandstand admission is $10, Senior Citizens and Students $7, Children 11 and under free with adult.
