CHRISTMAS IN JULY THIS FRIDAY AT HAWKEYE DOWNS

(Cedar Rapids, IA 7/22/03)—Hawkeye Dowbs Speedway presents “Rexco Bobcat Christmas in July” this Friday night, July 25. The track will celebrate the holiday, which is just 5 months from this Friday, with free coloring books for children, Santa Claus, Christmas lights, prozes for adults and children, and the annual “Bobcat Machinery Parade.”

Five divisions of the “ ASA Papa Johns Cup Iowa Wireless Stock Car Champioship” will be in action, including Performance Concepts Late Models, Miller Time Modifieds, Budweiser Late Model Sportsmen, Barron Motor Supply Super Stocks, and Special K Motorsports IMCA Stock Cars.

Grandstand gates open and practice starts at 6pm, with racing at 7:30pm. Adult granstand tickets are $10, senior citizens and students admission is $7, children 11 and under are admitted free.

With seven weeks to go in the season, the point races are far from decided.

The closest point race is in Performance Concepts Late Models. Defending champ Johnny Spaw has taken the lead just 2 points ahead of Jim Ross. Mike Ehde is third, just 8 points behind Spaw.

The next closest race is in Special K Motorsports IMCA Stock Cars. Doug Simon has a 6 point lead over Larry Silbaugh in the battle for the division’s inaugural season championship.

Also close is the Barron Motor Supply Super Stock race. Jim Hanson leads Arnie Reif by just 10 points.

Only 16 points separate first and second in Budweiser Late Model Sportsmen. John Henecke is the leader, with last week’s winner Andy Duggan second.

Larry Clausen has the biggest lead in any division. Clausen leads the Miller Time Modifieds by 22 points over Bob Gase.

The season continues every Friday night through September 5.
