There
were eight other winners of sorts as well during the annual Hochstetler Towing
Bike Giveaway Night which sent eight lucky boys and girls home with new bikes.
Colby
Fischlein, of Mooresville, NC waged a terrific battle with Tanner Allen to win
the Junior Division Feature in Go-Karts. Fischlein is the son of former area
driver Dale Fischlein and is also the nephew of Johnny, Ray and Eric Spaw .
Klein Walker placed second in that race with Allen crossing the stripe in
third.
In
the Senior Division, A trip from LaCrosse, WI paid off for Fred Hefti as he
edged out William Reiken to collect the checkered flag. Mike Knapp scored third
in the 12 lap race.
Merv
Chandler of
Ryan
Luedtke of Norway, IA picked up his fourth win of the season in the IMCA
Sportmods with Arnie Reif finishing second. Current point leader Tony Olson
finished third while Brian Kauffman and Jim Buhlman rounded out the top five.
Olson looks to maintain his point lead after this race but Reif and Luedtke,
who are now tied for second in points did make up some ground this week.
In
other Papa Johns Cup/I-Wireless Championship action, Steve Wilhelm picked up
his first win in a wild 20 lap Barron
Motor Supply IMCA Hobby Stock feature. The top five crossing the Coors Light
Finish Line were so tightly bunched it was almost a photo finish. In the end
Wilhelm, of
Randy
Filling of Toddville scored his second straight win in the Barron Motor Supply
IMCA Stock Car feature. Filling started outside the first row and then outpaced
Bob Ahrendsen and Kurt Bohnsack, eventually recording a .256 second win over
point leader Bob Ahrendsen. Ahrendsen has been a model of consistency this
season and continues to lead the points chase despite not having won a
feature. Doug Otto wound up fourth and
Mark Bolton fifth.
Moving
to the “big track,” Larry Clausen of
Chad Willett, who is second in points,
finished in third and will remain one-point behind Plummer in the point
standings. Arlo Becker finished in fourth while Scott Strauss posted his best
run of the season, finishing fifth after starting on the point.
Michael Weber scored his first career
win in the Budweiser Sportsmen 25 lap feature. Weber, who is from Ryan, IA,
started up front and built a sizable
lead early only to see it evaporate as the laps ticked off. With seven laps to
go Andy Duggan and Martin Ballard had caught Weber but as those two battled
side-by-side for second place, Weber was able to pull away again and he went on
to win by .341 seconds according to Hawkeye Downs Transponder Scoring. Ballard
wrestled second place from Duggan with point leader Dave McCalla fourth and
Brian Franks fifth.
Racing continues Friday night, July 28
with the ever popular School Bus Racing on the card along with Budweiser
Sportsmen, Barron Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars, Barron Motor Supply IMCA Hobby
Stocks, Sunline Hornets, and IMCA Sportmods.
