MODIFIED SPECIAL AT HAWKEYE DOWNS THIS FRIDAY, JULY 23

 

 

(Cedar Rapids, IA 7/19/04)--After a week off for

Monster Trucks, Hawkeye Downs Speedway presents the

first of six straight Friday night racing programs

this week.  Its "Christmas in July," with prize

giveaways and the biggest Miller Time Modified race of

the season the highlights.  All six "ASA Papa John's

Cup I-Wireless Championship" divisions will be in

action.

 

        Friday's race is another "Neighbors Night" with

residents of Bertram, Lisbon, Mechanicsville, Mt.

Vernon, and Stanwood admitted to the grandstand for

just $1.

 

        The "Elite Lawn/All Clear Modified 40" will be the

featured event Friday, with it possible for a driver

to win $1350.  First place pays $1000, with a $200

bonus to the highest finishing GM Crate Engine, a $100

bonus for fast qualifying time, and a $50 bonus for

the fastest lap in the race.

 

        Five different drivers have won the 7 Modified

features this season.  Arlo Becker is the championship

leader, 4 points ahead of Tim Plummer. Defending champ

Bob Gase is third, only 10 points out of the lead.

 

        In Performance Concepts Late Models, Brad Osborn has

won 4 of the six features this season, and leads the

standings, 32 points ahead of his father, Denny

Osborn.  Jeff King is third, 40 points out of first.

 

        Scott Wennermark leads the Budweiser Late Model

Sportsmen standings, 16 points ahead of Bob Ahrendsen.

 John Henecke is third, 18 points behind Wennermark.

 

        Dave McCalla and Bob Ahrendsen have each won 3 of the

six Barron Motor Supply Super Stock features, and are

tied for the point lead.  Paul Walder is third, 6

points behind the leaders.

 

        Matt Poduska has won 3 of the six Marines.com IMCA

Hobby Stock features, and leads the standings, with a

32 point lead over Roland Bohnsack.  Rookie Terry

Shaffer is third, 35 points out of first.

 

        Kandi Floyd tops the Women on Wheels standings, 6

points ahead of Jessica Hoffman and Connie Binder, who

are tied for second.

 

        Grandstand gates open and practice starts at 6pm

Friday, with racing at 7:30pm.  Adult grandstand

admission is $10, senior citizens and students

admission is $7, and children 11 and under are

admitted to the grandstand for $1.
