( Cedar Rapids, IA 07/08/03)--The IMCA Deery Brother Summer Series calling at Hawkeye Downs Speedway on

Tuesday night for the 11th time since the track was paved.  30 IMCA Late Models signed in to do battle on the asphalt Tuesday night and battle they did. Racing three and four wide at times, the dirt warriors let it all hang out on the Hawkeye Downs half-mile, showing they weren’t afraid to bang on each other just a bit while battling for positions..

NASCAR Winston Cup driver Ken Schrader won the 30 lap IMCA Late Model feature finishing ahead

of Lonnie Bailey, Greg Kastli, Johnny Spaw, and Brian Harris. Schrader, who breaks out the #99 Federated Auto Parts machine one time a year for this race, took command of the race on lap 23  after leader Lavern Carey slipped a bit coming out of turn three.

Schrader started the race in eighth and emerged unscathed from a wild first part of the race. Schrader said,” Those first three laps my heart beat more than it has all year.”

In Coca Cola Victory Lane Schrader added,” It was really neat to come here and race guys with no mirrors, and they run you clean. It’s a lot of fun and I enjoy coming here.”

Doug Simon posted another win in the Special K Motorsports IMCA Stock Cars,

crossing the stripe ahead of Rick Brown, Larry Silbaugh, Norman Chesmore, and

Aric Becker. The win was the fourth in five starts in the upstart class that runs several times during thr season on the quarter-mile.

Also in action were the IMCA Hobby Stocks. That feature win went to  former IMCA National Champ Bill Bonnett.

He was chased to the stripe by Nyle Godwin, John Watson, Troy Hudson, and

Jerry Hinton.

Landon Cassill notched another victory in the Duffy's Collectible Cars Legends

finishing in front of  Tom Frady, Ross Zumbach, Keith Meyer, and Ron Fare.
