THIRTY-EIGHT WINNERS AND COUNTING HEADING INTO FRIDAY NIGHT

 

(Cedar Rapids, IA 7/5/05)--An incredible 38 different drivers have won feature races at Hawkeye Downs Speedway this year.  The very competitive season continues this Friday night, with all six "Papa John's Cup I-Wireless" divisions in action.

 

      Also featured Friday will be the first "Hochstetler Towing Kids Cardboard Box Races."  Children 11 and under are encouraged decorate a large cardboard box like their favorite race car, and wear it to the track Friday night.  Parents will serve as "Pit Crew" as the

young "drivers" race on the track.   A pit stop, where

the "Pit Crew" changes the "driver's" shoes, wipes their face, and fills their "tank" with a cup of water will be included in each race.

 

      Cardboard Box race winners will receive a bicycle from Hochstetler Towing.

 

      Depending on the division, there are either just 7 or just 8 point races left in the season at Hawkeye Downs.

 

      Performance Concepts Late Models have 8 events remaining. Eight time champion Johnny Spaw has a slim

7 point lead on defending champion Brad Osborn.

 

      Miller Time IMCA Asphalt Modifieds have 7 point races left.  Defending champ Tim Plummer has a 19 point lead over last week's winner Arlo Becker.

 

      Budweiser Late Model Sportsmen also have just 7 point races remaining.  Kevin Korsmo has a healthy 27 point advantage over Martin Ballard.

 

      With 8 races left, Brad Dvorak has a comfortable 18 point lead over Chad Siems in Barron Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars.

 

      There are also 8 Barron Motor Supply IMCA Hobby Stock races remaining.  Brandon Herb leads Tim Dains by just

8 points.

 

      With 7 point races left, Rick Gallo continues to lead the Marines.com Hornets standings, 15 points ahead of Connie Binder.

 

      Grandstand gates open and practice starts at 6pm Friday, with racing at 7pm.

 

      Adult grandstand tickets are $10, Senior Citizens and Students are $7, with Children 11 and under $1.
