BIG MODIFIED RACE FRIDAY
KEN SCHRADER AND DIRT LATE
MODELS RACE TUESDAY, JULY 9
(Cedar Rapids, IA 07/01/02)—Hawkeye Downs Speedway has racing events this Friday, July 5 and next Tuesday, July 9.
Friday, the biggest Miller Time
Modified race of the season will highlight action. On Tuesday, July 9, IMCA
Dirt late Models hold their only pavement race, with NASCAR driver Ken Schrader
among the entrants.
Friday’s big Modified race, the
“Sperry Engines 40,” highlights action on Hochstetler Towing night. The
Modified feature pays $1000 to the winner, thanks to extra purse posted by
Sperry Engines.
Also on Friday’s program are “ASA
Papa Johns Cup presented by Iowa Wireless” points races for Budweiser
Sportsmen, Barron Motor Supply Super Stocks, and Foreman Hydraulics Legends.
The popular “Hochstetler Towing Kids Bike Giveaway” will also be held.
Grandstand Gates open at 6pm with Racing at 7:30pm. Adult admission is $10,
Senior Citizens and Students admission is $7, and Children 11 and under are
admitted free.
Performance Concepts Late Models
have the night off Friday, but will be in action with a points race Tuesday
night. Sharing the program are IMCA Dirt Late Models, with NASCAR’s Ken
Schrader racing his own car. Schrader is the defending champion of the event.
Three Hawkeye Downs drivers will do
double duty next Tuesday. Greg Kastli, Curt martin, and Brad Osborne will race
both their Dirt and Pavement Late Models.
Grandstand gates open at 5pm Tuesday
with Practice at 6pm and Racing at 7:30pm. Adult, Senior Citizen, and Student
grandstand admission is $15, with Children 11 and Under free.
After last Friday’s “Mid Season
Championships,” the point races remain close, tighter in some instances.
In Performance Concepts Late Models,
Brian Gibson leads Mike Ehde by just 8 points. TJ Schaefer is third, 20 points
out of first.
In Budweiser Sportsmen, Curt Van Der
Wal is the leader, 12 points ahead of Brian Franks. Johnny Mudd is third, 34
points behind the leader.
Mike Schulte leads the Miller Time
Modified Points, 30 points ahead of both Brian Allen and Bob Gase, who are tied
for second.
Defending champ Brad Dvorak has
taken the Barron Motor Supply Super Stock point lead. Dvorak is 4 points ahead
of runner-up Doug Simon, and 24 points ahead of team mate Kurt Bohnsack.
Kyle Heinrichs leads the Foreman
Hydraulics Legends by just two points over Kevin Foreman. Tom Frady is third,
24 points behind Heinrichs.
