RECORD
BREAKING SPEEDS EXPECTED WITH WINGED SPRINTS
FRIDAY
(Cedar Rapids, IA 6/29/04)--The all time Hawkeye Downs
Speedway track record will be in jeopardy Friday night
as Winged Outlaw Sprint Cars make their only
appearance this season.
The HOSS (Hoosier Outlaw
Sprint Series) Winged Sprints will be on hand with
drivers from Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan.
The all
time track record is 15.539, set by Kevin
Feeney with a Winged Sprint last year. This compares
to lap times in the 19's for the three Hawkeye Downs
1/2 mile divisions.
Papa
John's Cup I-Wireless point races will also be
held Friday for Budweiser Late Model Sportsmen, Miller
Time Modifieds, Barron Motor Supply Super Stocks, and
Marines.com IMCA Hobby Stocks.
The top
five in the HOSS point standings, Ron Koehler
of South Bend, IN;
Rick Baker of Camby, IN. Greg
Wheeler of Columbia City, IN; Sondi Eden of
Crawfordsville, IN; and Mike Tarlton of Albion, IN.
are all expected to compete.
Eden is
one of the top rated female drivers in short
track racing.
She'll be driving the car Ted Hines won
with at Hawkeye Downs last year.
Another
top driver entered is USAC, HOSS, and AVSS
veteran Denny England of Warsaw, IN. England held the
Hawkeye Downs set the track record in 2003, but was
second fastest last year.
In stock
car action, Bob Ahrendsen will try to
continue his hot streak.
Ahrendsen has won 3 of the 4
Barron Motor Supply Super Stock features, and also has
a win in Budweiser Late Model Sportsmen.
Ahrendsen
has a 12 point lead over Paul Walder in the
Super Stock standings.
He trails Kevin Korsmo by 6
points in the Late Model Sportsmen.
There have
been five different winners in the five
Miller Time Modified features. Arlo Becker is the
point leader, 10 points ahead of Tim Plummer.
Jeff
Selfridge and Matt Poduska have dominated
Marines.com IMCA Hobby Stocks, each winning two of the
four features. Selfridge leads the standings, 1 point
ahead of Poduska.
