MIDSEASON CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS FRIDAY, JUNE 28
(Cedar Rapids, IA 06/25/02)—The Hawkeye Downs Speedway season reaches its halfway point this Friday night with “Schoon’s Mid-Season Championships.” Five “ASA Papa Johns Cup presented by Iowa Wireless” stock car divisions will be in action.
Cars will be lined up by overall
point standings, with an inversion of 8, 10, 0r 12, depending on draw. Drivers
and crews will be introduced on the front stretch prior to racing, and feature
distances will be longer, 35 laps for Performance Concepts Late Models, 30 laps
each for Budweiser Sportsmen, Barron Motor Supply Super Stocks, Miller Time
Modifieds, and Foreman Hydraulics Legends.
All five championship races are
close.
The tightest point race is in
Performance Concepts Late Models. Brian Gibson leads Mike Ehde by just 4
points, with TJ Schaefer third, 22 points out of first.
Another close race is in Miller Time
Modifieds. Multi time champion Mike Schulte has a slim 6 point lead over Trent
Ross. Bob Gase is third, 24 points behind the leader.
Just as close is the Foreman
Hydraulics Legends. Kyle Heinrichs leads Kevin Foreman by just 6 points. Tom
Frady is third, 22 points out of first.
In Budweiser Sportsmen, defending
champ Curt Van Der Wal has a 14 point lead over last year’s Rookie of the Year
Brian Franks. Veteran Johnny Mudd is third, 30 points behind Van Der Wal.
Barron Motor Supply Sup Stock leader
Doug Simon enjoys the most comfortable margin, 16 points ahead of defending
champ Brad Dvorak. Top feature winner Kurt Bohnsack is third, 36 points behind
Simon.
Gates open at 6pm Friday with Racing
at 7:30pm. Regular admission prices will be in effect, Adults $10, Senior
Citizens and Students $7, Children 11 and Under Free.
