WINGED OUTLAW SPRINT CARS THIS FRIDAY, JUNE 21

 

(Cedar Rapids, IA  06/18/02)—Winged Outlaw Sprint Cars make their annual appearance at Hawkeye Downs Speedway this Friday night, June 21. The “Cedar Rapids Toyota Winged Outlaw Sprints” will feature cars and drivers from the Hoosier Outlaw Sprints Series (H.O.S.S.)

 

            H.O.S.S. is one of only two pavement, 410c.i. Winged Sprint car series touring the U.S. Drivers from Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan are entered.

 

            Top entrants include last year’s Hawkeye Downs Winged Sprint winner Hank Lower of Angola, IN; three-time “Little 500” winner Jeff Bloom of Bangor, MI; Two time series champion Denny England of Warsaw, IN; and defending series champion Ron Koehler of South Bend, IN. A field of 20-25 cars is expected.

 

            The Winged Spring will have time trials, heats and feature. A purse of over $18,000 is offered, including a $1000 bonus to the fastest qualifier if he breaks the all-time Hawkeye Downs Speedway track record of 15.605 seconds, set by Bill Tyler in a Winged Sprint car last season.

 

            Race fans can see some of the Winged Outlaw Sprint Cars and meet the drivers at Cedar Rapids Toyota this Thursday, June 20, from 5pm-8pm.

 

            Also of Friday’s program are “ASA/Papa Johns Cup presented by Iowa Wireless” points races for Budweiser Sportsmen, Barron Motor Supply Super Stocks, and Foreman Hydraulics Legends.

 

            Gates open and practice starts at 5pm with Time Trials at 6:30pm and Racing at 7:30pm. Adults, Seniors, and Students grandstand admission price is $15, with Children 11 and under Free.
