RACING RESUMES WITH 5 DIVISIONS IN ACTION THIS FRIDAY NIGHT

 

(Cedar Rapids, IA 6/11/02)—Friday night auto racing returns to Hawkeye Downs Speedway this Friday after a week off for the Fair. All five “ASA/Papa Johns Cup presented by Iowa Wireless” divisions will be in action. Dashes, heats and features will be held in Performance Concepts Late Models, Budweiser Sportsmen, Miller Time Modifieds, Barron Motor Supply Super Stocks, and Foreman Hydraulics Legends.

 

            Twenty-five different drivers have won 33 features run to date. Only one driver (Kurt Bohnsack in Super Stocks) has won three features, and only six drivers (Justin Diercks in Late Models, Curt Van De Wal in Sportsmen, Arlo Becker in Modifieds, Chad Siems in Super Stocks, and Kyle Heinrichs ad Chris Sevey in Legends) have been able to win two features.

 

            The Championship races remain close, with 20 or les points separating first and second place in all five divisions.

 

            The closest point race is in Miller Time Modifieds. Mike Schulte leads Trent Ross by just 4 points, with Bob Gase only 16 points behind the leader in third.

 

            The next closest battle is in Foreman Hydraulics Legends. Kyle Heinrichs has a slim 6 point lead over the most recent feature winner, Kevin Foreman.

 

            In Performance Concepts late Models, Brian Gibson has a slim 8 point lead over Mike Ehde. Brian Franks leads Curt Van Der Wal by 12 points in Budweiser Sportsmen. Doug Simon enjoys a 20 point lead over defending champ Brad Dvorak in Barron Motor Supply Super Stocks.

 

            Grandstand gates open at 6pm Friday with practice starting at that time. Racing begins at 7:30pm. Adult grandstand admission is $10, with Senior Citizens and Students admitted for $7. Children 11 and under are admitted free with a paying adult, Senior, or student.
