30th ANNUAL
MILLER 100 THIS WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5
(Cedar
Rapids, IA 06/02/01)—There’s only one
night of racing this week at Hawkeye Downs, and it’s a big one. The “30th
annual Miller Late Model 100 presented by 100.7 The Fox” is this Wednesday
night, June 5.
Also on Wednesday’s program are
“ASA/Pap Johns Cup presented by Iowa Wireless” races for Miller Time Modifieds,
Barron Motor Supply Super Stocks, and Foreman Hydraulics Legends.
Practice starts at 5pm with Time
Trials at 6pm and Racing at 7:30 pm. Raindate is Wednesday, June 12 with the
same start times.
The “Miller 100” is Eastern
Iowa’s most historic race. A large purse, including $2000 first place prize, is
expected to attract top drivers from Wisconsin and Minnesota, along with
Hawkeye Downs regulars.
Three former winners, accounting
for five Miller 100 victories, are expected to compete/ Steve Carlson, the only
three-time winner, is expected, along with Kevin Nuttleman and Johnny Spaw, who
have each one the “100” once.
The fastest 20 qualifiers will
start the Miller 100, along with 4 from a last chance race and two provisional
starters from the top 20 in Hawkeye Downs points.
A full field of Modifieds, Super
Stocks, and Legends are expected, as their races award points toward the track
championships.
Mike Schulte leads the
Modifieds, 6 points ahead of a tie for second between Trent Ross and Brian
Allen. Doug Simon tops the Super Stocks, 18 points ahead of Brad Dvorak. Kyle
Heinrichs leads the Legends, 10 points ahead of Kevin Foreman.
Fans are advised to arrive
early, as several thousand tickets have been distributed by 100.7 The Fox
Radio. Tickets will be on sale at the gate. Adult, Senior and Student price is
$10 with Children 11 and under admitted Free.
The Miller 100 will be taped for
telecast. Fox 28&40 will show the race Sunday, June 9 after the NASCAR
Pocono race. Mediacom Cable TV 10 will also carry the telecast, at 8pm Tuesdays
June 11 and 18 and 8pm Saturdays June 15 and 22.
