NOSTALGIA STOCKS AND THE “UNDIE 500” ON THE CARD THIS FRIDAY

 

(Cedar Rapids, IA 5/24/05)--Hawkeye Downs Speedway kicks off the Memorial Day weekend with a special racing program featuring Nostalgia Stocks and the "Undie 500" Friday night. 

 

        Grandstand gates open at 6pm with Racing at 7pm.

Adult Grandstand Admission is $10, Senior Citizens and Students are $7, and Children 11 and under are admitted to the grandstands for $1 when accompanied by adult.

 

        Nostalgia Stocks are either replicas or restored race cars from the 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s.  There are two divisions that compete, the older "Coupe" style cars and the newer "sedan" type cars.

 

        The "Undie 500" is a special race to benefit the HACAP Food Bank.  Area celebrities and Hawkeye Downs drivers will compete in Formula Fun Karts wearing their underwear. 

 

        Fans will receive $1 off full price adult admission if they bring a can of food for the HACAP Food Bank

 

        Five of the Six "Papa John's Cup/I-Wireless Championship" divisions will be in action Friday.  The "Performance Concepts Late Models" have the night off, to allow drivers to compete in the ASA Late Model race in Madison, WI. 

 

        The Madison track will return the favor September 2, when the ASA Late Models race at Hawkeye Downs.

 

        With 22 different drivers winning the 32 features held so far this season, the point standings are close.

 

        Defending champ Tim Plummer leads the Miller Time IMCA Asphalt Modifieds, five points ahead of last week's winner Arlo Becker.

 

        Kevin Korsmo tops the Budweiser Late Model Sportsmen,

6 points ahead of Martin Ballard.

 

        Brad Dvorak leads the Barron Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars, just 3 points ahead of Doug Simon.

 

        Brandon Herb has a 3 point lead over Roland Bohnsack in the Barron Motor Supply IMCA Hobby Stocks.

 

        Rick Gallo has an 8 point Derrick Beadle in Marines.com Hornets.

 

        Hawkeye Downs is using the IMCA point format for all

classes.   One point equals one position in feature

races.
