MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND REVS UP WITH HAWKEYE DOWNS RACING

( Cedar Rapids, IA 05/21/07)—The Memorial Day weekend kicks off with seven divisions in action at ASA Sanctioned Hawkeye Downs Speedway on Friday, May 25. The points races have revved up as drivers battle for Papa Johns Cup/ I-Wireless Championships.

 

                Last Friday night featured door handle to door handle racing in all divisions treating race fans to a great night of racing.

 

                This Friday night will see the Budweiser Sportsmen, Miller Time Modifieds, Barron Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars, Barron Motor Supply IMCA Hobby Stocks, Sunline Hornets, IMCA Sportmods and Go Karts all doing battle.

 

                The Budweiser Sportsmen has co-leaders with Andy Duggan and Martin Ballard each with 116 points. David McCalla is just four points behind in third.

 

                In the Miller Time Modifieds, defending champion Tim Plummer continues to lead the points holding a six marker edge over Rodney Rocarek. Shawn Stinger is in third, just seven points behind Plummer.

 

                Doug Otto continues his strong start, holding a four point margin over Bob Ahrendsen and Logan Hale in Barron Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars. Randy Filling is next in line just five points behind Otto.

 

                In Barron Motor Supply IMCA Hobby Stocks, Gary Pfantz has a narrow two-point lead over Tim Dains.  Kandi Floyd and Dennis Klinsky are tied for third, sitting six points behind Pfantz.

 

                Things are equally tight in the Sunline Hornets and Shawn Myers leads by just one point over Brad Chandler and Brian Beaty. The Bighouse Motorsports entry is next on the points chart, five points behind the leader.  (Points in the Hornet Division are awarded to the car regardless of who the driver is on a given night.)

 

                The IMCA Sportmods continue to impress as Arnie Reif holds a scant one point lead over Ryan Luedtke and Tony Olson who are tied for second.

 

                The action kicks off at 6pm Friday night when Grandstand gates open and practice gets underway. The first green flag waves shortly after 7pm.

 

                Admission prices remain the same as they have been the past few years.  Children (0-11) are $1.00; Students (12-17) are $7.00; Adults (18-61) are $10.00; and Senior Citizens (62+) are admitted for $7.00.
