USAC SPRINTS AND MIDGETS AT HAWKEYE DOWNS THURSDAY AND FRIDAY

(Cedar Rapids, IA 5/14/03)- The nation’s premier Non Winged Sprint Cars and Midget Cars and drivers will be racing at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids this Thursday, May 15 and Friday, May 16.

The “Advance Auto Parts Hawkeye Downs Open Wheel Classis Presented by Papa John’s” will feature USAC (United States Auto Club) Sprint Cars and Midget Cars.

Thursday’s event includes practice for Sprints and Midgets, plus a race for the new Ford Focus Midget Car series. After the races, autographs will be available from the USAC drivers.

Friday’s event is a complete National Championship program for USAC Sprint Cars and Midget Cars.

It’s the only appearance of the USAC cars and drivers this year.

JJ Yeley of Phoenix, AZ pulled off a rare sweep of the Sprint Car and Midget Car features last year at Hawkeye Downs, and will be back to defend his titles. Yeley will drive a car owned by MASCAR star Tony Stewart in the Sprint Cars, and one of the famous Steve Lewis #9 cars in the Midget Cars.

An added attraction Thursday and Friday will be the Tony Stewart souvenir trailer, selling NASCAR and Open Wheel Tony Stewart souvenirs.

Gates open at 5pm both evenings. Thursday’s Practice is from 5pm-8pm, with Racing at 8pm. Friday’s Practice is at 6pm, with Time Trials at 7pm, and Racing at 8pm.

Admission Thursday is $5 for adults, Children 11 and under Free. Admission Friday is $20 for adults, children 11 and under Free.

Admission is Free Thursday with a Papa John’s Pizza proof of purchase. There’s a $2 discount coupon available for Friday at area Advance Auto Parts stores
