Dave Mader III, a 46-year-old,
second generation driver, will pilot the Lorz Motorsports entry and carry the
backing of O’Reilly Auto Parts, the event title sponsor of the May 19 ASA
Racing Series stop at Hawkeye Downs Speedway.
His racing resume stacks up with
nearly any driver of a similar age. Mader has won more than 200 feature events.
He has won four All-American Challenge Series titles (now All-Pro Series),
drove for Harry Melling in the first night Winston, won an ARCA race at
Michigan Speedway, captured poles in the Grand National Series at Dover and
Rockingham, won the Snowball Derby in 1978 and at age 23 is still the youngest
driver to have won it. He also had runner-up finishes in Grand National events
at Pocono and Talladega.
