BIG LATE MODEL RACE, IMCA STOCK CARS AT HAWKEYE DOWNS FRIDAY

 

(Cedar Rapids, IA  5/6/03)—One of the season’s biggest Late Models races and the debut of IMCA Stock Cars highlight action at Hawkeye Downs Speedway this Friday night, May 9.

 

                The “2nd annual Performance Concepts Late Model 50” is scheduled Friday, with $1000 on the line for the feature winner. The race will be taped by Fox 28 and 40 Television for broadcast this Sunday at 12 Noon.

 

                Brian Gibson is the defending champion of the race, and will be back in action Friday to defend his title. Gibson crashed opening night, and missed lat Friday’s program.

 

                Last week’s Late Model feature winner, Dudley Fleck, leads the Performance Concepts Late Model standings with 98 points. Brad Osborn and Johnny Spaw are tied for second with 92 points.

 

                Also scheduled on Friday’s card is the first of 11 races for Special K Motorsports IMCA Stock Cars. The sanction is the first by IMCA for the division on pavement.

 

                Rounding out Friday’s card will be round 3 of the ASA Papa John’s Cup Iowa Wireless Stock cars Championship for Budweiser Late Model Sportsmen, Miller Time Modifieds, Barron Motor Supply Super Stocks, and Duffy’s Collectible Car Legends.

 

                The point leaders are Andy Duggan in late Models Sportsmen, Larry Clausen in Modifieds, Bob Ahrendsen in Super Stocks, and Larry Will in Legends.

 

                Grandstand Gates open and Practice starts at 6pm Friday with Racing at 7:30pm. Regular admission prices are in effect, with Adults $10, Senior Citizens, Students, and Active Military $7, with Children 11 and Under Free.
