FIVE DIVISIONS IN ACTIONS THIS FRIDAY NIGHT, MAY 10
(Cedar Rapids, IA 5/7/02)—The first special Late Model event of the season, the “Performance Concepts 50,” highlights action at Hawkeye Downs Speedway this Friday night. All five “ASA Papa Johns Cup presented by Iowa Wireless” divisions will be in action.
The “Performance Concepts Late Model
50” is part of the “Smirnoff Ice TV Racing Series.” It will be televised on Fox
28/40 this Sunday, May 12, from Noon-1pm. The race will be replayed on Mediacom
Cable TV 10 Tuesdays May 14 and 21 and Saturdays May 18 and 25 at 8pm.
Justin Diercks leads the Performance
Concepts Late Model standings, just 2 points ahead of Doug Hite. Mike Ehde is
third, 8 points out of first.
Defending champ Curt Van Der Wal
leads Budweiser Sportsmen, 8 points ahead last week’s winner Brian Franks.
Kevin Lee is third, 22 points out of first.
Defending champ Mike Schulte tops
the Miller Time Modifieds, even though he hasn’t won a feature this season.
Schulte leads Trent Ross by 4 points and Brian Allen by 6 points.
Doug Simon is still looking for his
first feature win, but leads the Barron Motor Supply Super Stocks. Teammates
Kurt Bohnsack and Brad Dvorak are tied for second, 14 points behind Simon.
Chris Sevey leads the Foreman
Hydraulics Legends, 2 points ahead of Kyle Hinrichs and Kevin Foreman, who are
tied for second.
Grandstand gates open at 6pm with
Racing at 7:30pm. Adult Grandstand Admission is $10, Senior Citizens and
Students admission is $7, with Children 11 and under Free.
Friday’s event is the last for the
local race teams until May 24. There is no Friday racing on May 17, due to the
ASA Racing Series weekend May 18-19.
