PRIETZEL OUTLASTS CHALLENGERS FOR YELLOW BOOK USA
MID-AMERICAN SUPER TRUCK WIN AT HAWKEYE DOWNS
(Cedar Rapids, IA 050203)—Bill Prietzel, a veteran racer
from Franklin, WI out-dueled Vince Wilkinson, Donnie Woller and Andy Jirik over
the last third of the thirty lap feature before winning his second feature at
Hawkeye Downs Speedway.
Prietzel, a
former dirt late model driver who also has turned laps at Hawkeye Downs in a
Mid-American Stock Car, piloted his Heiser Trailer Chevrolet to the win after
starting the second row of the 16 car field.
Prietzel emerged as the leader early in the race after a
three-wide battle in turns three and four. He built an early lead over the
field, which included six rookies. As the laps ticked off, Wilkinson in the Jeff’s Engine Masters Chevy, Woller in
the Zastrow trucking Ford, and Jirik in the Mark’s Towing Chevy closed the gap
on the leader and with 5 laps to go the trio was running nose to tail.
The final five laps saw Woller slip by Jirik for third
with Woller finishing fourth and Jamie Farrell scoring fifth in the Brewer
Motorsports Ford.
The track record for Mid-American Super Trucks was broken
twice in qualifying, first by Donnie Woller and then a new record was
established by Andy Jirik after he spilt the beam in 19.938 seconds. The
previous record of 20.071 seconds was held by Jerry Seibel, who wasn’t on hand
for Friday’s race.
The Yellow Book USA Mid- American Super Trucks return to
Hawkeye Downs on June 27 when they’ll be joining the Midwest Stock Car
Classics, HOSS Winged Outlaw Sprints, NAMRA Formula Indy’s, IMCA Stock Cars and
Nostalgia Stocks.
