DRIVERS GEAR UP FOR WEEK TWO AT HAWKEYE DOWNS

(Cedar Rapids, IA  05/01/06)—With the first week of racing in the books drivers, crews, officials, and fans are ready to settle in for the rest of the 2006 Hawkeye Downs season.

On Friday, May 5 Hustler Turf Equipment presents racing action in the Papa Johns Cup I-Wireless Racing Series and the Full Throttle Energy Drink Stars of Tomorrow Series.

Performance Concepts ASA Late Models, Budweiser Sportsmen, Miller Time Modifieds, Barron Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars, Barron Motor Supply Hobby Stocks, and Sunline Hornets will all be action during the second week of racing.

While it is early, a slightly revised point format promises to keep the point battles interesting throughout the season. In addition to receiving points for feature finishes drivers also receive points for how they finish in their respective heats, except for Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks, which don’t receive track points for heats.  In addition, the ASA Late Models fast qualifiers receive points for their efforts in time trials.

In Performance Concepts Late Models,  Landon Cassill holds a two point lead over Jeff King with Kyle Hinrichs sitting two points behind King, in third. While King won last Friday night’s feature, Cassill holds the points lead by posting a better lap in qualifying.

The Budweiser Sportsmen have two drivers tied for the lead. Dave McCalla is tied for the lead with Andy Duggan with each driver earning 47 points. Martin Ballard sits in third, one point behind the co- leaders.

Arlo Becker unofficially sits atop the points chart in the Miller Time Modifieds, earning a perfect score for his efforts on Friday night. Becker earned 40 points for the feature win as well as 10 points for winning his heat for a total of 50. Tim Plummer is one point behind Becker with Rodney Rocarek just two points away from the lead.

In Barron Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars, Brad Dvorak holds the lead over Bob Ahrendsen by one point.  Randy Filling sits in third just two points back.

Tim Dains’ win on Friday night earned him the top spot in the Barron Motor Supply IMCA Hobby Stocks with Rodney Grother and Terry Shaffar right behind.

The Sunline Hornets point lead is shard by Creston Williams and Brian Beaty, both with 49 points. Nathan Ballard is four points behind in third place.

Racing action gets underway Friday night at 7pm.  Grandstand gates open and practice starts at 6pm.
