FAST TIMES AT HAWKEYE DOWNS

(Cedar Rapids, IA 4/27/05)--Familiar names were on top of the speed chart at Wednesday night's pre-season open practice at Hawkeye Downs Speedway.  Fourty Seven cars took to the track during the 3 hour session.

 

Pacing the Performance Concepts Late Model division was seven time champion Johnny Spaw with a time of 18.853.  Rookie Scott Wennermark, last year's Budweiser Late Model Sportsman champion, was close behind at 18.884.

 

Leading the way in Miller Time IMCA Asphalt Modifieds was ageless veteran Arlo Becker with a time of 19.406.

 Veteran Larry Clausen was second quick at 19.573.

 

In Budweiser Late Model Sportsman, multi time champion Kevin Korsmo was quick at 19.909.  Former Super Stock champion Martin Ballard was second fastest at 20.017.

 

In Barron Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars, two time champ Brad Dvorak was quickest at 15.087.  Former champ Bob Ahrendsen was second fastest at 15.138.

 

Several Barron Motor Supply IMCA Hobby Stocks and Marines.com Hornets also practiced, but they do not use electronic scoring transponders and no official times were turned in.

 

Hawkeye Downs Speedway opens its 80th anniversary season this Friday night, April 29.  Racing starts at 7pm.
