DRIVERS FROM 12 STATES, CANADA ENTERED IN MAY 3 USAC SPRINT/MIDGET DOUBLEHEADER

Rapids, IA 4/24/02)- Drivers from 12
states and Canada have entered the Friday, May 3rd “Advance Auto
Parts Open Wheel Classic” at Hawkeye Downs Speedway. The event features USAC
(United States Auto Club) Sprint Cars and Midgets in the first doubleheader of
its kind in Iowa Motorsports history.
Drivers are entered from
Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota,
North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Ontario, Canada. The
ore-entry list has 23 Midget Cars and 19 Sprint Cars, with a least 5 more in
each division expected.
Top names entered include 2001
USAC Sprint Car Champion JJ Yeley, 2001 USAC Midget Champion Dave Darland, 2001
Hawkeye Downs USAC Sprint winner David Steele, and Hawkeye Downs Sprint Car and
Midget Car track record holder Tracy Hines.
A special free open house will
be held Thursday, May 2 at Hawkeye Downs. USAC cars will practice from 5pm-8pm,
with fans invited to the infield pits for autographs after practice.

are available at area Advance Auto Parts stores. Racing starts at 7:30pm
Friday, May 3. The event will be televised world wide by ESPN2, with the
tape-delayed broadcast airing Thursday, May 16.
