PLANS FOR 2006 HAWKEYE DOWNS SEASON TAKING SHAPE

 

Cedar Rapids, IA  01/16/2006—Plans for the 2006 racing season at Hawkeye Downs Speedway are taking shape with the completion of rules meetings and a preliminary schedule.

 

          The Hawkeye Downs Race Committee, who are promoting the races this season, recently concluded a series of meetings with the competitors and race officials in each class to finalize rules for the season. Dan Hilby has been named Competition Director with Don Burkey serving as Chief Tech Official.

 

          The first night of racing is scheduled for Friday, April 28 and the regular season is expected to conclude with season championships on Friday, August 25. The ASA Late Model Series-Northern Division is tentatively scheduled to visit on Friday, Sept. 1.

 

          While the schedule is still very tentative race fans can also expect to see visits from the USAC Ford Focus Midgets, HOSS Winged Outlaw Sprint Cars, and the Deery Brothers Summer Series featuring IMCA Dirt Late Models. The popular and historic Keith Fleck Miller 100 will also return to Hawkeye Downs in 2006.

 

          Other events are still being planned including Motor Madness featuring school busses, Mini-Vans and other classes.

 

          Fans can also expect several more names to be added to the Hawkeye Downs Wall of Fame.

 

          Race fans will again see six classes in action on the quarter-mile and half-mile tracks at the speedway. ASA Late Models. Late Model Sportsmen, Asphalt Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Hobby Stocks and 4 Cylinder Hornets will all see action again in 2006.

 

          Officials have announced that they will hold the line on prices once again and no increase in admission prices is anticipated.
